Description
Nowhere on Longmont's city website does it indicate which number to call to report a non-violent non-emergency crime. I called the general info police number to report a crime. I was told I would be transferred to Dispatch, and was put on hold for more than 24 minutes before my phone battery gave up. Calling Dispatch directly got me to a human, who claimed they had not gotten any calls on hold all day yet. After reporting the crime, I called the general number to inform them they might have phone issues. I was told Dispatch had just been too busy to take my call. If nobody can agree on why my call wasn't taken, there's a serious problem here. This is the only way to report a crime via phone, and it is obviously horribly inefficient. It literally would have been faster for me to go down to the station in person.

Every page of the police/fire (Public Safety) website has two phone numbers. The police general number which is 303-651-8555 is answered by the police report takers during daytime hours, at night this forwards directly to the dispatch center. These PST police staff members can take some types of reports for non-emergency crimes or can transfer you to the dispatch center if the reason for the call is required. If this was a true emergency, residents should not hesitate to dial 9-1-1. You can also call the dispatch center directly for non-emergencies at 303-651-8501, this is also on the police website. We always recommend that Longmont residents place this number in their phones as many of the cellular phone companies and web sites are NOT providing the correct numbers for police/fire. The information that cellular phone companies and web sites provide is not controllable by local emergency service agencies. The second number prominently on the website is for records which takes a high volume of callers. For the record, this contact was investigated over a year ago by the police department. The dispatch center pulled this callers tape when this was first posted. The information provided by the SeeClickFix submitter is not accurate as the department had a taped version of her conversation and was able to review it.
