Description
Using the flags for crossing the street along puget drive instead of slowing or stopping vehicles it actually accelerated and and I think they were trying to run me over or my dogs. Clearly people don't understand those flags the drivers need to be educated somehow. Preferably before they actually hurt somebody. Me that's a huge safety concern cause I literally had the flag ripped out of my hand by a pickup truck going down the hill as he accelerated when he saw me pull the flag out and I'll end try to cross

RE: Traffic Safety on Southeast Puget Drive
Dear Mr. Justad:
Thank you for contacting the Transportation Systems Division of the City of Renton regarding traffic safety on Southeast Puget Drive. The flags at the crossing are not official traffic control devices. Like brightly colored clothing, they help drivers make out pedestrians against a bland background. Used alone, they do not legally obligate drivers to stop. When crossing the street, due care is still expected of pedestrians. This includes the display of flags when they are available. To safely cross the street, we recommend that you wait for all approaching vehicles to pass instead of crossing in front of them.
While examining Southeast Puget Drive, my staff noticed some tree branches that are beginning to obscure the lines of sight of drivers to the crossing. I have written a memo to our Urban Forestry & Natural Resources Manager, recommending trimming of the vegetation before they further reduce drivers’ views of the crossing. If you have further questions or comments, please feel free to contact my assistant, Ronald Mar, at 425-430-7297 or by email at rmar@rentonwa.gov or me at 425-430-7220 or by email at cbarnes@rentonwa.gov.
Sincerely,
Chris Barnes Sr.
