Description

Hello,

I am writing to request that improved signage be installed in this location to adequately warn drivers of the danger of the upcoming road danger and require them to reduce their speed to safely navigate it.

The upcoming section of road is extremely dangerous given the sharp curves, downhill slope, hidden driveways, and narrow road. Currently, a high percentage of drivers fail to stay within their lane while heading downhill here as they do not slow down sufficiently to make the sharp turn within their lane. This results in several near head on collisions.

Last night, a driver approached the turn at a high rate of speed and crashed through our fence and into our courtyard. A few more feet and they would have plowed into our living room and/or 200' into the canyon. If I had been walking my dog or backing out of my driveway, I might not be here now. Here is a video of the incident: https://youtu.be/hCaQe2c31Gk

Please improve the pictured signage ASAP. First, the current signage indicates a right turn first. This is incorrect. The road curves aggressively to the left. This sign would be more appropriate: https://www.amazon.com/Curvy-Road-Warning-Sign-Warranty/dp/B00J9D1QPC

Second, there needs to be a slow down or speed limit sign. There used to be a 15 mph sign there but it was removed. Did the City remove this?

Given that many drivers do not obey signs, I request that the City install a speed hump at his location. This is the only way to effectively slow down traffic prior to the downward slope increasing at the sharp turn. This will also reduce the amount of traffic that uses Southdown Road as a cut through to lower Hillsborough instead of the safer and less residential Black Mountain (which requires a bit more distance to access).

Please let me know how the City plans on responding. Thanks for keeping our families safe on these dangerous roads.
