Solid white lines mean "stay in lane" yet every day on the Beltway while in the stretch of roadwork that has the solid white lane markers, people are constantly changing lanes. This is dangerous. There are no "stay in lane" signs. It wouldn't fix the problem of all the selfish drivers who feel that they're special enough so that they can ignore traffic/driving laws to get ahead a few seconds, but some "stay in lane" signs might remind a few of them!
