At our NPA we learned that people in a safe needle program turn in their needles. So a needle on the street is a danger. We learned NEVER to pick up a needle, and to be sure that children know the danger. Is there a law requiring properl disposal of needles? Are they tested for prints and DNA?
A majority do not turn them in. There's working on getting like the drop boxes so they can be dispensed out and about certain places. I don't feel like that will even change anything.
I've Definitly seen a decrease in my area of the dropped needles everywhere. The news around last week said that it was being worked on to hopefully be able to have drop boxes in public areas like bathrooms but if it goes thru it won't be until fall. As far as I know Howard. Center helps out with this stuff for people. You could call them and ask if you were given he right info.
WHY will it take until fall to install safe disposal boxes in public rest rooms? I'm not saying that is the solution, (it creeps me out and I'll never use a public rest room downtown), but WHY does it take months to put a box on the wall next to the other boxes in a stall?
Council has to pass something to put disposal boxes in a rest room? There are boxes there now for disposal of feminine hygiene products, without an act of Council. Council needs to read and discuss the Annual Audit and Management Letter! Disposal of needles in a safe box is a no-brainer.

Needles are being dropped where they are used. Drop boxes in public rest rooms?
If majority are not returned, councilors got misinformation and passed on it on to us.
