Description

I have a problem with the administration of the WUI Fire Safety Program. I received a letter from CCFD dated August 25, 2021 requesting that I schedule a date for inspection of my property at 930 Tournament Drive. In response to that letter, I called and set up an inspection for Nov. 29, 2021 at 8:45am. On Sept. 21, 2021 I receive a letter from CCFD indicating an inspection was done on Sept. 21, 2021. This inspection was apparently done from the street and not in my presence as I was in Idaho at the time of the inspection. It advised a re-inspection was necessary within 45 days.
When I returned from Idaho on Oct. 4, 2021 I called the CCFD and spoke with Carla. Carla confirmed that I indeed had scheduled the appointment for Nov. 29, 2021 at 8:45am. She also indicated she would advise the inspector that I had a properly scheduled appointment for Nov. 29, 2021 during which the actual “first” inspection would take place. She further indicated the inspector must have driven by the property with the hope he/she could gain access to inspect the property apart from any scheduled inspection. Then, on Nov. 26, 2021 I receive another letter from CCFD dated Nov. 23, 2021 which indicated I must schedule a re-inspection within 10 days. Included with that letter was the 2021 WUI Inspection report dated Oct. 5, 2021 which indicated the code violation was a “partial inspection.” Please understand the Oct. 5, 2021 letter was never sent to me. The first time I saw that letter was as an attachment to the Nov. 23, 2021 letter.
In summary:
1. I schedule an inspection for Nov. 29, 2021
2. The Inspector makes two drive by inspections without my knowledge or consent prior to the date of the scheduled inspection.
3. I receive one of the drive by inspections and not the second.
4. I attempt to get CCFD straight when I contact Carla at CCFD.
5. The Inspector seems to have no regard for complying with a scheduled inspection date that CCFD had established in their records as Carla confirmed.
I’d like to know who is responsible for running such a sloppy program where it appears no one has control of scheduling or respect for the homeowner’s time. Sloppiness on the part of CCFD is wasting my time. It also appears that the inspection group is overstaffed if they have spare time to make 2 unscheduled inspections and write 3 meaningless uncalled for letters. This is irritating to say the least.
The Town of Hillsborough needs to re-evaluate this program. From what has been demonstrated so far, it’s pitiful. Please call me to discuss.
