Description
In the afternoon when traffic is leaving the back gate of NAS Oceana on Hornet Dr and approach London Bridge Rd, cars do not obey the yield signs on either side of London Bridge. You have to travel in a pack to make it safely by that point. Just today a car didn't even attempt to yield and pulled out right in front of me. Thank God for good brakes. I have been traveling this road for thirteen years and I can't count the times cars from both directions have crossed without slowing down. This is every kind of vehicle from school buses, cars and even tractor trailers. Now hen a tractor trailer or truck are pulling a trailer behind it the trailer can not be seen due to the shrubs. Have someone sit out there in an unmarked car from 2:30 on and you will see what I mean. I know you won't put up a traffic sigh but how about stop signs?

Traffic Engineering staff investigated. A review of crash history for the last three years revealed a total of two crashes at this intersection involving northbound left turns not yielding the right-of-way to southbound through traffic. One of the signal warrants is a crash history of at least five correctable crashes per year before considering a traffic signal. The NAS Oceana back gate off of Hornet Drive is only open to the base traffic in the morning and afternoon rush hours, Monday through Friday. Based on staff's evaluation, the existing YIELD traffic control for northbound left traffic is appropriate for this location. However, the Police Department has been asked for selective enforcement of the YIELD sign at this location during the afternoon rush hours.
I hope this is helpful.

As mentioned above, staff determined the YIELD sign is appropriate, so it will not be changed to a STOP sign. They did observe this in the field and not just behind a desk. Police will be enforcing the existing YIELD sign.
