A newly planted street tree snapped off at the trunk today and needs to be removed.
This is a much broader, ongoing problem that I reported in complaint numbers 839321 and 839320. The tree across the street in front of the gas station that was leaning sharply was removed over the weekend.
The subsequent loss of the tree in front of 3203 brings the total to five trees of the ten that were planted just over a year ago and, in addition, the tree around the corner on Rand was severely damaged.
Is this what taxpayers will have to settle for when we spent over a million dollars for improvements to this intersection?

After years of watching the new street trees along Lake Merritt Boulevard be vandalized I think I finally spotted the culprit.
As of 3:25 PM today he was walking eastbound on the north side of Lake Merritt Boulevard ripping branches off the trees near the intersection with 12th Street.
He appears to be the longest term homeless camper in the Lake Merritt Boulevard area. His campsite has most recently been at the very southernmost end of the underpass walkway (west side of the channel) that connects the lakeshore path with Peralta Park.
Male, approx. 50 years old, approx. 6 feet tall, Black, partly balding. I would not be surprised if this single individual was entirely responsible for the damage and destruction of dozens of trees and shrubs in this area over the last few years.

Street tree is missingAcknowledged4239 Park Blvd Oakland, CA - GlenviewThere used to be a street tree in front of Rumbo al Sur at 4239 Park Blvd. Now, there are only 2 poles left, to hold up the disappeared tree. This appears to be an Oakland city tree.
Perhaps the tree was hit by a car. Perhaps it died an untimely death.
In any case, it would be nice if the city would replace the tree.
