This drives me nuts. First of all, there's no reason for 2 lanes going straight and a right turn lane here. The roadway before this is "unmarked', it's just a wide road with no distinct lanes, so why have 2 lanes to go straight, especially when the road just merges after the intersection anyway? EVEN WORSE - there is constantly a line of cars parked IN THE MERGING LANE on the other side of the intersection. So if you're in the left-most straight-ahead lane, you have nowhere to go except to cut off the person in the right-most straight-ahead lane. How can the City let people park here?! It's clearly marked as a merging lane and NOT as street parking! Why not just combine the (extremely narrow) 2 lanes to 1, and then allow the parking after re-striping? This City makes no sense!

I believe this intersection was modified in the past year or so. There is now a lane to go straight (marked with 1 arrow on the pavement) and a lane to go right (also marked with 1 arrow). Well, either people don't pay attention or can't see the arrows when there is traffic, because people are constantly going STRAIGHT from the RIGHT TURN lane!! This will clearly cause an accident at some point if it hasn't already! I even got stuck running a red light yesterday because someone cut me off from the right hand turn lane! There needs to be more signs here so people know what's going on!! Would be better too if the lanes were actually lined up properly, so you didn't have to move over to the left to get into the lane to go straight and then go back to the right.

This intersection is a MESS! The traffic coming off the Bronx River Pkwy Northbound is supposed to yield to traffic on Pelham Pkwy, but most of the time they don't! They'll force their way over the lines on the road because they're trying to make the left turn onto Route 1. Who thought joining all these roads right here was a good plan?! And it's not clear whether I'm allowed to go to the right of the split to the Pelham Pkwy "service road" or whatever ti's called (again not good planning, the roads are so confusing here). You end up having about 3 lanes of traffic going into one and everyone racing to get there. Why not at leastt have separate lights for the people already on Pelham Pkwy and those coming from the exit ramp?
  • 493-503 Illington Road Yorktown, New York - Westchester County
There's another pothole (about a foot wide and probably half a foot deep) right at the intersection with the bridge over the Taconic. This corner is always bad. There's also a LOT of large gravel on this corner which makes it very dangerous - almost dropped my bike once hitting a rock on the pavement! Another thing - they REALLY should put a stop sign here for people coming over the bridge! There's been several times where people do not look before making the turn and that could have resulted in an accident especially considering the poor sight distance due to the vegetation. Luckily I drive defensively and carefully!
  • Route 134 Ossining, NY - New Castle
There are a lot of potholes on this stretch of road (Route 134) between Route 9A and Hudson Hills Golf Course. They patched it a year or 2 ago but it's deteriorating very quickly. Also, they only paved over half the lane in some areas, which makes it dangerous for motorcycles! Hitting that transition between the old and new pavement going around a curve could be disastrous! Please repave the whole road!
  • Bear Mountain State Parkway Cortlandt, NY - Cortlandt Manor
NYS needs to complete the connection between Bear Mountain State Pkwy and the small extension that comes off of the Taconic! The right-of-way is there, they just need to get this project done already! Just imagine how this would relieve traffic on Route 202! A drive between Peekskill and Yorktown could be cut by at least 10-15 minutes! Then they can work on making Route 202 better, and more pedestrian/bicycle friendly if they want.
  • Taconic State Parkway Briarcliff Manor, NY - Briarcliff Manor
This section of the Taconic - basically from below Pleasantville all the way up to Millwood - is in horrible shape, is very dangerous, and is miserable to drive on! They need to fully resurface the pkwy in this area!
  • Sprain Brook Parkway & Interstate 287 Elmsford, NY - Elmsford
For about a mile north of here, and a few miles south, there are numerous very large potholes. Also, what seem to be joints in the concrete (?) on this section of road, have deteriorated to the point of being large gaps that are literally painful to drive over, for both the driver and the car! Given that this is such a new parkway (compared to others in the area), it's amazing the roadway is in as bad shape as it is. Come on NYS, get with it! I know there is some construction going on with the bridge over 119, hopefully they will take care of some of the other issues along with that, but I won't keep my hopes up.
  • Whitestone Expressway Queens, NY - City Council District 19
Going southbound, after the Whitestone Bridge, at the split of 678/Cross Island Pkwy, there is a HUGE bump (not a pothole, but a raised hump in the road) in the middle lane (the lane that splits to go to either highway). It is directly in the path of the right-hand side wheels of your car if you are continuing to 678. To avoid it, I have to stay in the left-hand side of the lane which is dangerous as other drivers may assume I'm going to the Cross Island Pkwy. This is a very dangerous bump and should be smoothed out!
  • Croton Dam Rd Yorktown Heights, NY - Westchester County
This stretch of Croton Dam Rd (though I am only going by what it is labeled as on Google Maps, since there are no street signs!) is in terrible condition, and is extremely dangerous and damaging to vehicles. There are numerous HUGE potholes, and it is already an extremely narrow, windy road to start with. This road has seen a lot of extra use in the past several months due to the Taconic bridge construction and therefore got even worse. This road needs to be repaved ASAP!
  • Illington Rd Yorktown Heights, NY - Westchester County
Illington Road is in terrible condition and has been for the 3 years I've been living on the road. The Town patches the road every once in a while but these patches only last a few months at best. Since Hurricane Sandy the road has become even worse. This is an extremely dangerous situation, not to mention damaging to vehicles. This entire road (It's only 1 mile long) needs to be fully repaved ASAP!
  • Kitchawan Rd Ossining, NY - Westchester County

This intersection of Route 134, the Taconic parkway southbound entrance and exit ramp, Illington Road, and Grants Lane, is extremely dangerous!

Cars exiting the Taconic southbound don't yield to cars on Route 134 (and are usually going way too fast), cars turning onto Grants Lane from 134 don't pay attention to cars on Illington. There are just way too many roads intersecting here and it is very disorganized!
