Description
Baseball fields keep being victims of vandelism, copper wriing thefts, snack bar and storage bin break ins, car break ins, etc
Fields are too dark at night, need some kind of regular lighting to protect the fields so that the kids dont suffer and keep having to cancel their games.

Irene,
My name is Chris Baldino and I am the Park Maintenance Supervisor for Butterfield Park, I would like to let you know what is being done to address your concerns. First let me speak about the wire theft, we have installed a camera where the wire theft has been occurring. We are also working with a security company to provide us with some options we could use at all our sites that are experiencing the same type of wire theft. Unfortunately alarming or securing wires that are under ground is not an easy task, but we are working on it.
As for the area lighting throughout the park, this project has been identified and we have drawing to improve the electrical infrastructure at this site, one half of the park has been completed and we are working on completing the west half of the park next, but we don’t have all the funding to complete it yet. Once the infrastructure is complete drawings to install area light will need to be done. I wish it were as simple to just install some lights but it is not. Any major improvement like lighting would trigger ADA path of travel requirement which will cost more money we don’t have at this time.
Ending, we do have a Facility Monitor group that works in the evening which could make a presence at this site to possibly help with the car that are being broken into and I will work with their supervisor and let them know that they are needed at this site.
Please know that we are aware of the need for lighting at this site and it is identified in our capital improvement project list. If you have any further question or concerns feel free to contact me at (951) 279-3753.

Dear Chris,
Thank you for your prompt attention and response to the request for assistance. It is my understanding that the cameras were installed quite a while back and please correct me if I am wrong but the wire has been stolen several times since the cameras were installed. I know field two has been hit a few times and the snack bar has been hit as well...it caused us to lose money and product due to the lack of electricity to the snack bar.
Yesterday's break in to the bin closest to smith street (shown in the picture) most likely would not have happened had that big green trash bin not been placed in a way to obstruct the view of our storage bin from the street. I can tell you that after i took the picture last night there was a car entering the field that had no business there and it actually scared me to be there alone.
I do understand that funding is tight and that there are regulations that must be adhered to...and I have tried to be patient. Just please be aware that there are hundreds of responsible, caring and concerned families using these fields and their safety and well being should be the number one priority here.
We, as parents, are willing to help and do our share....please work with us and lets get this taken care of.
Thanks,
Ms Irene
