Hi, this is still a problem and it happens year round. I took this shot today. As snowmelt runs down the Lake Street sidewalk, the slope/grade of the sidewalk directs the flow right onto this property where it floods the basement.

How has this not been addressed? Even temporarily addressed? Can someone at DPW please explain how it is appropriate to put this on a long term capital improvement project? DPW's negligence is damaging private property. It appears DPW does not respect its Citizens, their investments in the City, or their concerns.

The curb cut and sandbags the City left in front of our property 3 months ago did not solve the problem. The curb cut is only effective when the stormwater is already 3" deep and has started to flood our basement, and sandbags are not a permanent solution. This section of the sidewalk needs to be replaced and graded to direct stormwater flow AWAY from this private property. Thanks.

Happy to report that DPW completely rebuilt the sidewalk in front of our property late last summer, adjusting the grade so water drains to the street, and it appears to have been totally successful. After several mid-winter thaws and rain... we've watched the snowmelt flow west across the sidewalk and drain to the street as it should (rather than being directed to our basement door). It took several years of persistent campaigning the City to make this happen... but it finally did and we're very grateful. Thank you!! This issue can be closed!

Without all the extra stormwater being dumped from the sidewalk.. this area now stays manageably dry. First year our basement didn't flood when the snow melted! Thanks!
