Hose faucet constantly leaking onto 8th St sidewalk Open

1221 S 8th St Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - Passyunk Square

The house at 1221 S 8th St has a hose bib on its front wall that leaks. All the time. All over the sidewalk.

In the winter, the sidewalk freezes, creating an ice hazard on the sidewalk.

In the summer, the water festers and stinks.

All year round, this property just wastes water. All they need to do is turn a dang shutoff in the basement.

Recently demolished house - lot now used for parking Open

8th And Manton Philadelphia, PA - Passyunk Square

On the southeast corner of 8th and Manton, a condemned house was recently demolished. Woohoo!

But now, the dirt lot is being used for parking. Boo! This is not only creating a mess -- mud and dirt all over the street and sidewalk -- but also creating a hazard to pedestrians and an eyesore to neighbors.

I'm not positive, but I'm pretty sure there is a permitting process that has to happen to turn a zoned residential property into a parking lot.

Further, I think there are some regulations about keeping empty lots fenced off.

So, this is a ZBA issue, an L&I issue, and a PPA issue.

I know I know, parking in South Philly, enforcement, blah blah blah. At least it's on record now.

  It is terrible! I was so happy when they finally tore the house down. A success I thought. We went from one dangerous eye sore to another. I wish I could say I was surprised. Philadelphia is my home, but the city is doing a terrible job keeping tax paying citizens that care about their community here!

Dangerous Vacant House Open

The second floor window has broken on this house and shards of glass are everywhere in front of the house on the sidewalk and steps.

1228 Ellsworth St Philadelphia, PA - Passyunk Square

At least three houses and all of the sidewalk between 1226 and 1236 Ellsworth was either tagged with yellow spray paint or dripped over. The tags were on the front of one house at 1232, on the front mats at 1226 and on the sidewalk at 1236.

Report trash, litter and dumping in your neighborhood Open

The shopping center at 600 Washington Avenue is a major dumping ground for cups, wrappers and all kinds of street trash. The owners of the center do not appear to any street sweeping or maintenance of the sidewalks. It is an unsightly mess.

Various open uncapped drain pipes Open

800 Alter Street Philadelphia, PA - Passyunk Square

It is very dangerous on the side walks. I have tripped a few times but my dog always seems to find the open drain and put his foot inside. It is dangerous and allows rats and other things to come up. It has to be capped. T here are at least 3 on Alter street. 800 block. the city should repair.

The residents at 825 S. Darien St and sometimes at 823 S. Darien St. often park their cars in the curb cut and across the sidewalk blocking the sidewalk and forcing pedestrians into the street. Not only is this illegal and dangerous, it is also completely disrespectful of neighbors.

This house has been vacant for years. There is no sidewalk at all and is a major hazard as the house is close to the Broad St line subway stop and a major pedestrian area.

Owner was fined previously under missing/broken window ordinance. Pulled a permit months ago but has made no repairs.

PGW left behind construction materials; being used to reserve parking spots Archived

1001-1021 Washington Ave Philadelphia, PA - Bella Vista

About a month ago PGW was replacing pipes on the South Side of the 1000 block of Washington Avenue. However, yellow PVC pipes, cones and PGW placards were left on the North Side of Washington (right in front of Sherwin Williams.) after the construction wrapped up. Since then, a taco truck has used the pipes/cones to block off a parking space for themselves 24 hours a day. Worse, they actually block out the two spots in front of "their" spot with PGW cones / placards for ease of parking. Our neighborhood has lost three parking spots and we're left with unsightly construction debris.

Disgruntled neighbors moved the pipes / placards to the sidewalk to free-up parking spots last night.

PGW needs to REMOVE the pipes (now sitting on the sidewalk and blocking pedestrian traffic) and have a word to the taco truck about using PGW property to block off three legal parking spots, designated for residents.

  I am writing to ask for your assistance.
  
  PGW work crews (contractors) have left a large quantity of yellow piping behind two locations in Bella Vista.
  
  The locations are behind two stores (Sherwin Williams and CVS) located at the corner of 10th and Washington and 11th and Washington respectively in Bella Vista 19147.
  
  The pipes were discarded next to dumpsters, in the rear behind the store, and have been there for months. Perhaps they were overlooked by the work crews?
  
  In any event, would you please have your staff arrange a cleanup of all PGW materials behind d these two stores?

Sidewalk is broken up and needs to be replaced at this vacant lot. This is on a heavily traveled subway connector street and has been a safety hazard for at least 5 years now.

Missing sidewalk Open

1309 Bainbridge St Philadelphia, PA - Wharton-Hawthorne-Bella Vista

There is a large chunk of sidewalk missing on 13th and Banbridge directly east of Genaro's pizza. The sidewalk (or what used to be) sits in front of a vacant lot. It is dangerous and a real eye sore. Should be fixed asap before someone breaks an ankle!

Litter EVERYWHERE Open

S 8th St Philadelphia, PA - Bella Vista

Because this is a very busy stretch with two bus stops close together as well as two convenience stores, there is a small river of litter that flows down the west-side sidewalk and in the gutters. Many of the residences are apartment buildings, there are a couple of restaurants, and many elderly. No one picks up the litter. It's disgusting.

  The pin on this issue -- 8th and Fitzwater -- is about 10 blocks north of where it should be.
  
  Queens Village is a model of cleanliness compared to 8th from Ellsworth to Reed St.
  Genos and Pats, a bunch of property owners who just don't give a F***, auto-body shops... It's filthy.

Graffiti Open

Two grafittis. The "HELLO -->" idiot wrote on a tree with white paint, then some other moron wrote what looks like "SCABZ" or "SCARZ" on the sidewalk at the foot of the tree with black spraypaint. Ideally, it would be nice if these kids got a public paddling. However, I would be satisfied if somebody would please remove the grafitti (especially the black spraypaint on the sidewalk).

  This house has been an ongoing safety concern. It is an optimal example of urban blight, neglect, and an overall disregard for the neighborhood. The owners name is Sarin Lay. He presently has over 18k in back taxes on the property.
  
  I have a trail of e-mails from L & I basically stating that they are going to do nothing about it. I informed L & I that when some one is killed on that NW corner of 8 and Federal that I would be releasing those e-mails to the newspaper. They didn't seem too concerned.

  This property is completely unsafe. The bill door entry way is open, the roof is caving in, windows have fallen out in the past. I've seen this eye sore for years now. The 47 bus stop is at the front of this property. Taxes are owed. Graffiti and loitering is common. The question is not if this property will harm a passer byer or an intruder, but when will it. I am outraged that L&I has done nothing. I know a neighbor has worked hard on getting them involved. I hope that we can have a conclusion to this problem before the news story is what the neighbors tried to do and who was hurt when they wee ignored. Shameful.

  Hi, I write a column for the Daily News about city services (philly.com/cityhowl). Did a quick Municipal Court records search and found that back in 2003, L&I took the owner (Sarin Lay) to court over another property (603 Wolf St, which is now owned by Peter Lay). L&I didn't take property owners to court back then unless things were REALLY bad so it must have been dangerous.
  
  The city also took Sarin Lay to court twice over unpaid real estate taxes. All three cases were dismissed because the city wasn't able to serve the owner.

  I haven't seen the property but if it is a bad as you guys are saying it is, L&I would give the owner 3 chances (90 days total) to comply before taking them to court. They let food fall out of their trash cans onto the sidewalk behind the restaurant on camac street and neve clean up. The filth has been attracting mice

sidewalk is an ad-hoc traffic travel lane Open

1114 Washington Avenue Philadelphia - Wharton-Hawthorne-Bella Vista

There is a parking lot on south side of 1100 block of Washington Avenue that routinely uses the pedestrian sidewalk as traffic travel lane for loops into parking lot.. This is a very dangerous situation as cars especially on Sundays are constantly speeding around onto the sidewalk heedless of pedestrians.

  This complex needs to be more mindful of its neighbors both with noise and pedestrian safety
  Becasue the club is on the 2nd floor, the sound is elevated with less buffers and travels farther.
  Also, the parking lot at this complex is a tragedy waiting to happen specifically along the sidewalk on the Wash Ave frontage. There is no divider between the sidewalk and parking lot. The owners have the parking spots painted right up to the sidewalks edge with the result being that cars turn blindly onto the sidewalk as they travel looking for spots or to exit. This is especially evident on weekends-especially sundays. i've been told to call the police when I see it happening and tickets will be given but that is ridiulous as by the time the cops get there the car would be long gone. Also was told the Community Relations officer doesn't work weekends so nothing can be done. LAME!

Couch abandoned on sidewalk Archived

1000 S 11th Philadelphia, PA - Wharton-Hawthorne-Bella Vista

A couch has been dumped in front of our house on Carpenter Street. It is very heavy, gross, has been rained on, and I don't want to find a homeless person on it one morning. I also don't want to be ticketed for it.

Report trash, litter and dumping in your neighborhood Archived

1100 South 11th Street Philadelphia, PA - Passyunk Square

The restaurants that use the dumpsters on 11th Street between Washington and Ellsworth - across from the 7-11 - leave the doors to the dumpsters open, and allow trash water and/or cleaning supplies to just drain into the street drain. It's gross, smelly and also dangerously slippery on the sidewalk.

  Ew- yeah I have to agree- this looks terrible- why are they permitted to use this mixed RESIDENTIAL street frontage (look diagonally across the street and south to see the hosues) as the dump for this fetid mess. They never power hose anything and it's really inappropriate to have this disgusting situation facing a MAJOR street. This really ruins the experience along 11th street and can be seen from WASHington Avenue too - nice "gateway" at this important & very busy intersection. Why don't they put it on the inside of the complex? I guess the experience inside the parking lot is much more important for the few patrons that venture there than it is for the thousand or so people who pass by the "dump-hole" on 11th St in the course of a day. This is a major transit route out of South Phllly, and people who stop at the light see (and smell in warmer weather) this mess as they wait for the light to change .
  This is INAPPROPRIATE- Dicicco's gone so lets clean this up for the good of the many rather than the usual way these things work- bending over backwards for the ease /comfort/benefit of the developer. (Also the situation in the parking lot where cars use the sidewalk along Washington Avenue as a travel lane for the northern perimeter should be addressed as well.)

  Just no pride in there business or the neighthood. where are the inspectors, where are fines. why do we keep seeing the same comments,of illegal dumping, business without dumpsters,where is the city in these matters,they want us to shell out more tax dollars. people are investing more into there homes, and what does the city do ,cut cut cut

  Great point about this section of the neighborhood as a "gateway" to Passyunk Square. The block of 12th between Washington and Ellsworth is completely uncared for by the property owners on both sides of the street - 12th being a southern route for one of the major bus routes through the neighborhood. And that piece of 11th is a total psychological barrier for any pedestrian who would want to stroll down toward Devil's Den, Kris's and around to E. Passyunk Ave. It's basically screaming out... go another way. I hope if some infrastructure money/plans come along they go to completely remaking - especially from Washington to Ellsworth - as a more pedestrian friendly boulevard south rather than the desolate drag strip that it is. Thanks for bringing this to everyone's attention. Let's get some more votes!

Garbage on the side of the Acme Open

11th St & Wharton St Philadelphia, PA 19147, USA - Passyunk Square

Acme needs to do more to maintain the cleanliness of the sidewalk and grass along its side on Reed St. There is litter strewn all along the sidewalk and the grassy strip, and the grass is overgrown.
