Issues: bike concern
Ella T Grass Blvd And Boston Post Rd New Haven, CT - West River
Bicycling along Marginal Drive is a great way to enjoy the West River Memorial Park, but it is practically impossible to get there from the south. A bike path connecting Marginal Dr to the Davenport Ave Bike Route would solve this problem. The land is already publicly owned. The difficult thing will just be to find space on the bridge over the West River. The sidewalk might be wide enough to support two-way bicycle traffic, but I’m not sure.

I have noticed that wrong way drivers is a common occurrence on this section of Chapel St. between Derby and Sherman Ave. Luckily there hasnt been an accident yet. It is so bad that I look both ways before I cross the street. And now that the weather is becoming warmer not only are cars going the wrong way but you have to watch out for ATV's and dirt bikes. I park my car here and am very concerned that its going to get hit one day because of a wrong way driver. Possibly more signs need to be put up stating its one way.

According to this article as well as earlier conversations with the City, the planned sharrows and bike route signs (which had already been delayed by a year) were scheduled to go in last week.
Does anyone know what is causing the delay?

There is a large amount of broken glass in the bike lane northbound on N Frontage Road about 1/2 block east of Orchard. To avoid the glass, bicycles need to ride in the street, which is terribly unsafe on this busy boulevard.

Today between 5 and 8 pm there was at least one squad car sitting in the parking lot across the street from my house. During that time frame somewhere half a dozen and a dozen cars/ bikers/ kids on motorbikes sped past them one Winthrop Ave. The speeders were noticed by the cops who would hit the siren every time, but the cops did nothing. No one was followed, no one was stopped, they just sat there and kept hitting that siren every 10 or 20 mins. Not only are people driving dangerously, but this was really frustrating to observe! This lack of action gave the impression that those officers are lazy or unconcerned - either way that's unacceptable considering we pay their salaries with our taxes. As if this wasn't upsetting enough - the constant blaring of their siren ruined an otherwise beautiful spring evening. Did anyone else hear/ notice this?

I bicycle pretty much anywhere, but I have to admit that I feel pretty shook up whenever I ride on Boulevard. Paving a trail in West River Memorial Park alongside the road, combined with crosswalk improvements, would both make Boulevard a complete street and add significantly to New Haven’s greenway trail network.
