  • 40 Sargeant Drive New Haven, CT - Long Wharf

the comments posted on most of the stories i've read are incredibly offensive on the registers articles. many do nothing to promote dialogue and only attempt to attack people. it is mostly anonymous and negative ranting. it is far from constructive.

many online news sources require that comments are reviewed by a moderator before they are actually posted.

does the register not believe that they are responsible for the way that commenters use their site?

  • Union Station New Haven, Connecticut - Long Wharf
NHPD issues warnings about muggings around Church Street South of pedestrians heading from train station to downtown. The response, according the New Haven Register, is to place ugly, prominent "No Trespassing" signs around the complex. How about some more positive pedestrian wayfinding signs, maps and walking or bicycling ambassadors sending people down Union Ave and State Street (or whatever the preferred route might be)? How about some better lighting on the preferred route, some plantings, etc? City of New Haven, New Haven Parking Authority, Yale University?
  • 132-152 Lamberton St New Haven, CT 06519, USA - Hill
Laydon Industries continues to crush rocks in this neighborhood area despite a cease and desist order from the City of New Haven -- from which it receives contracts! Air quality is severely compromised, and the noise levels are high. Would a company ever try to get away with this in a rich neighborhood? NO!

  • 200 Orange Street New Haven, CT - Town_Green
During the recent election I discovered that people who used to live in a rental property I own, several of whom have not lived here for years, are still listed as registered voters in New Haven. With a little bit of imagination, it becomes clear that in this city, with such a transient population, it's likely that the statistics re: registered voters/# of such who vote in any given election, etc., will be really inaccurate, which is not a good situation. There must be a way for City Hall to clean up these records. It is important and necessary work, though I'm sure massively tedious; how do we get this done?
  • 32 Pine St New Haven, CT - Chatham Square

The house at 32 Pine St has the entire backyard filled with junk, unregisterd cars, a pig carcass and more. In addition, their side lot is completely unmaintained covered in trash, used condoms, hypodermic needles...

Thanks to the owner of 32 Pine St's utter disregard for upkeep, the area has become a haven for prostitutes, drug dealers, and other human waste. There is now spraypaint "tags" on the stone wall marking some scumbag's territory.

I won't post the owner's name, but everyone around here knows who he is and is tired of his utter disregard and lack of respect for his neighbors. Working personally with him did absolutely no good, so maybe this will.

  • 256-294 Townsend Avenue New Haven, CT 06512, USA - East Shore
We were pleased to read in the Register that the NHPD is taking this quality of life issue seriously. We hope they will keep an eye (or perhaps ear) on Townsend Ave, where we continue to have under-muffled motorcycles, dirtbikes, and ATVs round the clock.
  • 39-89 Fountain St New Haven, CT 06515, USA - Westville
Light for Central Avenue at Fountain has terrible timing. I sat at the light waiting for it to turn green through 4 commercials and 1/2 a song. When it finally did change it only was long enough for 2 cars to pass, I was the 4th car back so I had to wait AGAIN at the light before it turned green again. I don't think it's even registering that there are cars there waiting or the timing is much too long when it does register. Please fix ASAP.
  • 156 Elm Street Yale University, New Haven, CT 06511, USA - Downtown
The historic New Haven Green is an embarrassing and disgusting mess and no effort appears underway to stop this uncivil desecration, which is committed by the few to the detriment of the many:
Food and drink containers, empty cigarette packs, empty liquor bottles, paper, dumped food, discarded clothing, drug detritus, cigarette butts galore.
Next mayor of New Haven, please address.
We're fed up with the filth.
    --Sincerely
A registered voter who pays many thousands in taxes to the city every year.
  • 89 Sherland Ave New Haven, CT 06513, USA - Fair Haven Heights
There is a lot of controversy about the recent purchase of the beautiful, important, historic home at 89 Sherland, The Babcock Mansion. It was bought from the bank for $165G by a developer who intends to turn it into a sober house. There is not ample parking or street access, no privacy w/ 11 homes all around, and the community of neighbors is largely against it. Can the city do something? Can someone offer the new owner $200G's to buy it and move a family in? Follow the Register thread here, which includes a comment by the owner that expresses interest in the possibility of just selling it:

  • Chapel St New Haven, CT 06511, USA - Edgewood
There are multiples cars that park in front of Chapel ST that are registered out of state. They all have lived at this address for over a year and are not students. The tax collector needs to investigate these cars. I was going to post photos of the cars and plates but I wasnt sure if it was an invasion of privacy. Let me know and I'll post some if allowed.
