the comments posted on most of the stories i've read are incredibly offensive on the registers articles. many do nothing to promote dialogue and only attempt to attack people. it is mostly anonymous and negative ranting. it is far from constructive.
many online news sources require that comments are reviewed by a moderator before they are actually posted.
does the register not believe that they are responsible for the way that commenters use their site?

132-152 Lamberton St New Haven, CT 06519, USA - Hill
Laydon Industries continues to crush rocks in this neighborhood area despite a cease and desist order from the City of New Haven -- from which it receives contracts! Air quality is severely compromised, and the noise levels are high. Would a company ever try to get away with this in a rich neighborhood? NO!
200 Orange Street New Haven, CT - Town_Green
During the recent election I discovered that people who used to live in a rental property I own, several of whom have not lived here for years, are still listed as registered voters in New Haven. With a little bit of imagination, it becomes clear that in this city, with such a transient population, it's likely that the statistics re: registered voters/# of such who vote in any given election, etc., will be really inaccurate, which is not a good situation. There must be a way for City Hall to clean up these records. It is important and necessary work, though I'm sure massively tedious; how do we get this done?
32 Pine St New Haven, CT - Chatham Square
The house at 32 Pine St has the entire backyard filled with junk, unregisterd cars, a pig carcass and more. In addition, their side lot is completely unmaintained covered in trash, used condoms, hypodermic needles...
Thanks to the owner of 32 Pine St's utter disregard for upkeep, the area has become a haven for prostitutes, drug dealers, and other human waste. There is now spraypaint "tags" on the stone wall marking some scumbag's territory.
I won't post the owner's name, but everyone around here knows who he is and is tired of his utter disregard and lack of respect for his neighbors. Working personally with him did absolutely no good, so maybe this will.
39-89 Fountain St New Haven, CT 06515, USA - Westville
Light for Central Avenue at Fountain has terrible timing. I sat at the light waiting for it to turn green through 4 commercials and 1/2 a song. When it finally did change it only was long enough for 2 cars to pass, I was the 4th car back so I had to wait AGAIN at the light before it turned green again. I don't think it's even registering that there are cars there waiting or the timing is much too long when it does register. Please fix ASAP.
89 Sherland Ave New Haven, CT 06513, USA - Fair Haven Heights
There is a lot of controversy about the recent purchase of the beautiful, important, historic home at 89 Sherland, The Babcock Mansion. It was bought from the bank for $165G by a developer who intends to turn it into a sober house. There is not ample parking or street access, no privacy w/ 11 homes all around, and the community of neighbors is largely against it. Can the city do something? Can someone offer the new owner $200G's to buy it and move a family in? Follow the Register thread here, which includes a comment by the owner that expresses interest in the possibility of just selling it:
156 Elm Street Yale University, New Haven, CT 06511, USA - Downtown
The historic New Haven Green is an embarrassing and disgusting mess and no effort appears underway to stop this uncivil desecration, which is committed by the few to the detriment of the many:
Food and drink containers, empty cigarette packs, empty liquor bottles, paper, dumped food, discarded clothing, drug detritus, cigarette butts galore.
Next mayor of New Haven, please address.
We're fed up with the filth.

New Haven, CT - Downtown
okay so this kid i know, started doing crack, and it is abs. TERRIFYING when he goes on a binge. im talking, 3-4 days with out sleep. thinking people are watching him, really the typical crack head. he drives around with needles, dope, crack, and a crack pipe on him. is there anything i can do to have the police pull him over? i literally SAW him in his car in a parking lot smoking crack. is it legal to call the cops if i see him driving doing this and give them his liscense plate, and tell them what is going on? and im pretty sure the car is not registered or insured. he drives like a MANIAC, last time someone was on the side of the road and he thought the guy was looking at him and started trying to fight him. it really is scary. he scares me.
231 Lighthouse Rd New Haven, CT - East Shore
Fees charged by city to use beach with out a full time life guard! City of New Haven camps taking children there without asking childrens ability to swim on any camp forms! A near drowning was reported by New Haven Register on the weekend(lifeguard had left 3 hours earlier)...It's time to hold the mayor of New Haven accountable for the safety of the residents!!! We need police on the streets AND lifeguards at our pools and beaches! There needs to be a warning siren and announcement before the lifeguards leave the beaches so people in the water as well as on the beach will know when lifeguards are leaving.
Townsend Ave And East Shore - East Shore
Why does the New Haven Register get away with "dumping" nespapers at the curb of streets in our city when no one subscibed at those addesses? This practice allows the Register to inflate their circulation numbers and their ad rates. It's littering and the Register should be fined. Advertisers beware--you're not getting the circulation that you pay for!
