The manual sign that is currently up at Union Station is scheduled to be replaced with an electronic station as early as this spring! Speaking for myself, it's one of the joys of visiting the train station, listening to the sign as it changes with new information. It also provides an excellent audio queue that something has changed. The new boards are going to be silent.

Let's see if we can get community involvement going and save this piece of New Haven history!

Racks are full, greatly discouraging local residents from cycling to the station. This causes an increase in traffic and is not very equitable, considering that the state subsidizes parking garage construction to the tune of $50,000 to $100,000 per space.

Also, for commuters, there needs to be a major increase in the amount of storage that is secure and sheltered.

When will the DOT attend to this problem?

Two occasions (one in August 2010 and the other January 2011) where 911 was called due to gun shots in our neighborhood. The dispatcher reported she was transferring to New Haven and hung up the call. Tried calling again and was transferred and kept on hold for 5 minutes.

  • 1 17 Cinque Green New Haven, CT - Hill
There is garbage all over the plaza, directly across the street from Union Station. The first thing one sees, when exiting the train station, is a run down, garbage filled housing project. The project management needs to clean this place.
  • 34 Cinque Green New Haven, Connecticut - Hill

The privately owned Church Street South Housing complex across from Union Station has been allowed to decay for nearly 50 years. As a result, current tenants are living in unsafe apartments, crime is rampant, and a vast area near Downtown is underused. It's long overdue that the housing project is revitalized into a mixed-income, mixed-use community that is safe, attractive, and productive for all.

For information on how that all might be achieved, please see here:

  • 50 Union Ave. New Haven, CT 06511 - Hill
Union Station needs recycling bins in the main station, hallway and out front, as well as along the street where the taxis idle. I frequently carry my bottles all the way home, because I can't find anywhere to put them. Why is there no recycling in the station proper, but only out on the platforms? It's nuts, and not keeping up with the times at all.

I've never quite understood why there isn't a bus depot / hub right across the street from our main train station.

Also, this could be at the Chapel Street station. The importance is for people to be able to get off of the train and get onto a regional bus so that we are not car dependent when we get off of the train.
