Lake St. Clair

Starting to see too many accidents and way to many near misses here. With the high school just a few blocks down 13 Mile, traffic just gets way too congested when school starts and ends. It's only a matter of time until a tragedy happens here.

Even though I have tended to have a "lead foot" as a driver so I have to watch myself, I'v always thought that there should be some streets where I always go slow. Of course I go slow on side streets because children (and adults) should be able to walk around their neighborhoods safely.

But I think that certain through streets should be for slower traffic and others for speed. Example: Gratiot for speed, Jefferson for slower traffic. I've been noticing that though the posted speed limit on Jefferson has remained 35, virtually no one goes under, say 42. This is even in the right lane. What bothers me more than what's happening now is the thought that if going 45-50 (many people do) is allowed and the word gets out, this will attract more traffic to Jefferson. I've always liked it that people who want to go faster would go to Harper or Gratiot and stay away from Jefferson.

In Grosse Pointe, Jefferson is Lakeshpoe Road. Police out in force ticketing those who go much over 35. I wish we had that. Maybe put up some of those electronic speed signs first to warn people then start enforcing for those who go over 40. I live right off Jefferson so I want this road to stay mellow.

The speed limit on Masonic is 30 but most people drive at least 50 along the stretch from Jefferson to Harper and disregard the school crossing guard at Greater Mack where there is a lighted crosswalk sign for the children of Kennedy Middle School. There are 4 signs at that intersection re no turns and hundreds of people on any given day make illegal turns. The crossing guard at this intersection has a very dangerous situation. The crosswalk sign should be timed to go on from 7:00am to 9:00am as many Lakeshore High students are crossing Masonic at Greater Mack beginning at 7:00am. I live at this intersection and do care about the safety of all who live in this area.

On any weekend, the Harley Ensign ramp is full of drunken idiots that can barely operate a watercraft. The marine patrol rarely has a look next door. Instead of shouting at people to slow it down in the no wake zone, plenty of real enforcement work could be done on the ramp. I have not been there any time in recent memory when I did not see/hear/smell some trashed guy trying to load his boat onto a traielr and drive away.
