Notified About

  • Lawrence Street And State Street New Haven, CT - East Rock
A number of folks have noted traffic safety concerns at this location. At the same time folks have really come to enjoy the pocket park. A kind neighbor has created the following suggestion for how to improve both situations. See attached for his suggestion as well as some temporary measures to pilot the idea.
  • 141 Nicoll St New Haven, CT 06511, USA - East Rock
Bike thief stole a bike last night and got away from cops. He came back at midnight to retrieve the bike that he had left, for the one he had stolen, and had once again gotten away from the cops. He came back this morning and retrieved his bike and was spotted casing Foster St. He is Black, 5'9" wearing a brown hoodie with a black coat over it that has red stripes on the sleeves. He was seen walking a red Specialized mountain bike with a plastic bag over the seat. If you see him call NHPD and you can tell them it's related to case# 18068
  • Corner Of Edwards And Nash New Haven, CT - Bishop-Hine
There is a parking lot behind Firehouse 19 Trauma Center (corner of Nash and Edwards - parking lot is on Nash). Last night some guy was parked there, got out and urinated, then got back in his car and proceeded to role what appeared to be marijuana joints for about 15 minutes (the urinator was in the passenger seat, there was someone else in the driver's seat. They were rolling with the car's map light on, so it was pretty easy to see). We called the police to come over; they came, but too late (I only saw them drive by, pretty quickly, about 45 minutes after we called). The car was still there but the guys were no longer in it. This parking lot has been a haven lately for loitering, noise, drug activity and what appears to be prostitution activity. There needs to be major surveillance and police presence around here. We need to feel safe in our homes and community.
  • 52 Mechanic St New Haven, CT 06511 - East Rock
There is a garage in back that collapsed YEARS ago and nothing has been done about it. It became much worse last winter. I am concerned that it may have become home to a serious rodent problem, or if kids got back there they would get hurt. Don't think LCI has ever loooked at it, even thought htis has been posted since 2009. SEveral neighbors offered to help hear on SCF, but no-one contacted the home owner. (I no longer live in the neighborhood, nor do the tenants of my place who were among those who offered help)
  • 90 Nash Street new haven, CT - East Rock
The couple at 90 Nash Street seem to think they own the street space in front of their home. Every winter they use trash cans with signs to reserve the spaces for their two full-size sedans (see photo). If at any point in time (summer or winter) someone parks in the spaces near their home, they leave threatening notes about why it was an inadequate parking job (although frequently violate their own rules of parking). We have tried to be courteous neighbors, but they have been nothing but rude and nasty to us. We would like the responsible city agency, whether it is the police or LCI, to come and ticket them for their violations. The city needs to show that it will not tolerate the use of intimidation to prevent others from sharing public space.
  • 14 Mechanic St New Haven, Connecticut - East Rock
I've lived near the intersection of Mechanic and Lawrence for over a year now and now feel confident enough in my observations to bring up the need for a stop sign for east going traffic at the intersection of Mechanic and Lawrence. This is a highly used crosswalk for residents in East Rock as they walk to and from the businesses on State Street. At times, crossing the street feels like playing Russian Roulette (e.g. anytime at night and especially at afternoon rush hour). Both other directions at this intersection require have a stop sign yet east traveling traffic does not. Yet, the cars that have the highest potential speed are the one ones traveling east on Lawrence as drivers have two unimpeded blocks to gain speed. I've noticed that cars often enter the right turn from Lawrence at a higher than safe speed. With customers exiting The Pantry and Mezcal often, I've noticed several near collisions between pedestrians and cars. Like I said, I'm just astonished that this intersection does not have a stop sign for east bound Lawrence traffic.

  • 15 Lawrence Street New Haven, CT 06511, USA - East Rock
  • East And State - East Rock
way too much pavement here. look at what other cities have done to convert pavement back into usable open space and calm traffic. also there is currently no pedestrian signal here, no crosswalks at some intersections, and distances are far too great for comfortable crossing, particularly for elderly or disabled residents.

  • 17 Nash Street New Haven, CT - East Rock
The police are here again. 3 Africans from IRIS gathered on the porch , shouting. This is not a matter of people who need a little help. these people have failed to adjust; they have been here many months.
