  • State And Bradley St. New Haven, CT - Downtown

The owner of Cafe Goodfellas consistently parks his black SUV in the no-standing zone in front of the restaurant. It's been there each of the last three days. This obstructs the visibility of cars turning from Bradley onto State and also blocks a fire hydrant. This is not just a nuisance, it's a public safety issue.

  • 974 State Street New Haven, CT 06511, USA - Bishop-Hine

JP Dempsey and Goosdellows outdoor tables take up too much of the sidewalk. Pedestrians are forced to use the "brick" section of the sidewalk which is cluttered with utility poles, newspaper machines and fire hydrants. It is nearly impossible for anyone in a wheelchair or stroller to get by.

I email inbox is blowing up with an excessive amount of emails from SeeClickFix regarding if fire hydrants being cleared. Most of them regard fire hydrants in areas i don't live in. While I understand the necessity of fire hydrants being cleared, I really would appreciate it if I didn't have to scroll down dozens of emails concerning them to get to a work email.

  • 577 Quinnipiac Ave New Haven, CT - Fair Haven Heights

Mazda and Nissan sedans parked in the street since the major storm. Blocking two way traffic, and blocking access to fire hydrant. Asked the owners to move, but they continue to park there. They will prevent plowing operations during the next storm.

I think its great that someone is using SCF to check on the work of cleanup crews in clearing essential infrastructure, but do I really need to receive an email asking if the hydrant has been cleared for every damned fire hydrant in New Haven?

  • Burton St And Central Ave New Haven, CT - Westville

I saw a single bespectacled white guy waiting in his car, two guys drive up and idle where the fire hydrant is, the bespectacled guy walk briskly to the car, exchange something through the drivers side window and both of them drive away quickly. I'm reporting this so we can all be vigilant about this sort of crap happening in our neighborhood. I think people from out of this neighborhood are using our streets for this sort of bull$h%t and it makes me very angry. I wish I had gotten the license plates. Neighbors please be vigilant.

Institute a permanent, well advertised street parking rules for snow days. They would go something like this....

Street parking rules goes into effect at 8 p.m. the day before snow is reported to start.

Citywide, no parking on major streets posted as a Snow Emergency Route.

Citywide, no parking within 25 feet of an intersection, nor in front of a bus stop nor in front of a fire hydrant.

In downtown, no street parking (on and between Howe Street, Tower Parkway, Grove Street, State Street and North Frontage Road).

In non-downtown areas, if the date is odd, park on the odd side of the street (with odd numbered addresses.)

In non-downtown areas, if the date is even, park on the even side of the street (with even numbered addresses.)

Switch cars over between 6-8 a.m.

If the storm begins on the 31st, park on the odd side that day and the opposite side on the next day.

If you are not able to follow these rules, park in a garage downtown or some other off street parking.

Edgewood Ave New Haven, CT 06515, USA - Westville

I live 3 blocks from an elementary school at the corner of Edgewood and Alden Avenues. I have dutifully shoveled my sidewalks and dug out the fire hydrant as best as I am able and marked it with a pole and a bright red ribbon. But I can not shovel the five feet from the curb to the street that the snow plows have left. I commiserate with the city and the huge job they are tackling but we have many children in our neighborhood who walk to school and there is no way for them to cross the street without walking in the street. I am a senior citizen asking for your help. We need one of those small bobcat plows to make our intersection passable for pedestrians! Thank you for your help and stay safe and warm out there !

Our water is brown tonight due to "High Volume." I was told by the water company that this was caused by people opening the fire hydrants to keep cool. Please don't open hydrants, and call the police asap if you see it. Otherwise, we will all keep having undrinkable water.

I don't get it. Latest city press release (Sunday, Feb. 10) says cars on streets will be tagged and towed. Yet the streets aren't plowed, people absolutely cannot move their cars at all.

3 feet of snow followed by 3 feet of classic New Haven Ka'Ching and oppression?

Please, say it ain't so ... See ad press release

    PRESS RELEASE
    February 10, 2013
    FOR MORE INFORMATION:

    Press Release
    New Haven Storm Clean-Up Update

(New Haven, CT) City of New Haven crews, with assistance from the National Guard, have made significant progress in clearing City Streets. The City’s Department of Public Works now has 40 trucks out plowing (30 heavy and 10 light duty) as well as 15 payloaders.

All main arterial roads are now passable. Payloaders and plows are now working on making secondary streets passable. Passable means that they are clearing enough snow to allow for emergency vehicle passage, usually a one lane path. Once all roads are passable, all streets will be revisited for more extensive removal.

New Haven’s travel ban remains in effect throughout the day today to prevent cars from getting stuck in the snow and to allow plowing crews to continue their work without interference. Residents should not push or throw snow from their cars or properties into the street as this will only prolong the process of getting streets open. Instead, residents should pile snow on the tree strip—the area of grass or pavement between the sidewalk and the curb—and other areas in the front of their homes.

Any cars that are parked in the street and obstructing street passage will be tagged and towed. People can call the New Haven Police Department’s Tow Clerk at 204-946-6316 for information of towed vehicles.

The City of New Haven has seen an increase in carbon monoxide incidents. Residents are urged to check their home’s exterior fuel vents (for furnaces and hot water heaters) and clear any snow to prevent carbon monoxide build-up within their homes.
All City of New Haven Senior Centers and New Haven Public Schools will be closed and there will be no garbage pick up tomorrow, Monday, February 11th.
The City would like to remind residents of the following:
    • Call 911 for emergencies only.
    • Report all non-emergency storm related issues to the City’s Emergency Operations Center at 203-946-8221.
    • Residents and contractors clearing snow from their cars and property, should not dump that snow into the street
    • As residents begin to shovel out, please clear snow from fire hydrants located near your property and if your sidewalk includes a curb ramp (at a street intersection), please shovel that so the sidewalk is passable for wheelchair use.
Residents can sign up to receive automatic storm updates (via email or reverse 911 call) by going to http://www.cityofnewhaven.com/EmergencyInfo/optin.asp

Residents can also call 203-946-SNOW (7669) to hear the latest pre-recorded storm update.
