Rte. 10 Hamden to southern Cheshire

Alot of time and money seemed to be spent a couple of years ago completely re-engineering this intersection, and it's great that there's a dedicated left turn signal for motor vehicle drivers making a left (while heading south on Rt 10 - Whitney Ave) onto Mt Carmel Ave (heading east). The problem is with all that redesigning no one ever thought to put in a signal that recognizes cyclists. If you get stuck at that light without a car behind you to signal the dedicated left turn the "on demand" signal never changes, and you get stranded in the middle of a fast, busy, dangerous state road. I should point out that this is a heavily used cyclist route and is part of many rides in the greater New Haven area. Can we please install new technology--or properly calibrate the existing infrastructure-- so that it will sense lone cyclists waiting at this left turn signal. Thank you. A turn lane for Stop&Shop is needed to allow traffic to flow onto Putnam ave and stop backing up onto Dixwell ave.

We need a bike lane from Hamden to New Haven. Whitney Avenue is one of the most dangerous roads to ride on, however drivers should not blame cyclists, but the lack of secured paths for cyclists. No rider in their right mind wants to negotiate space with vehicles that can kills us..

I've been at this intersection in the last few weeks and people run the light nearly 5 seconds after a different light turns green.

Without proper control, accidents are more likely than ever. I recommend implementing photo enforcement for this light.

Gradual buildup never taken care of by property owner. Public dumping leads to constantly overfilled dumpsters. Trees/grass also never properly maintained

At 6:25 today (Mon. 8/9) I watched as two teen girls cleaned their car out the side window as they waited for the Farmington Canal trail light to change. I asked what they were doing and the driver asked, "What's it to you?" Well, it's my town. So, if you see these disgusting girls in their red chrysler sedan (CT plates # 299-_ _ _) please help keep their trash where it belongs.

Hand to hand drug sales at the Hess gas station

There are no bicycle racks at the Walmart, or at most of the other stores on this shopping plaza, despite the fact that it is a major destination for regional shopping. Anyone know who manages Hamden Plaza?

This is a frustrating intersection. Vehicles traveling Eastbound on School St. want to turn North onto Whitney, but they cannot do so because Westbound travelers cannot pass due to parking congestion behind Eli's (and occasional vehicles blocking the road to allow police in and out of their driveway.

I strongly recommend that the city invest in an engineer to solve this problem.

If that doesn't happen, I offer the following suggestions:
- Create a No Parking zone along the streets for 500 feet in all directions. This at least will allow Eastbound drivers passage around those turning North onto Whitney.
- Lengthen the duration of the light for vehicles on School St.
- Encourage police to avoid using the access driveway behind Eli's.
- Make the parking lot behind Eli's a gated lot for handicapped plates and employees ONLY. I estimate that 70% of the traffic at this intersection is due to Eli's customers who try to park for dining, even though it is clearly marked "Take-out only." (The hired monitors engage in long conversation with people instead of giving clear direction, or they just sit in their chairs watching traffic accumulate. Eliminating ANY ambiguity will solve most of the traffic problems and save Eli's a lot of money in the long run.)
- The city should install cameras to capture and fine Southbound vehicles who block the intersection (and crosswalks), though they have a red light. It happens on every light during peak traffic periods, so revenue for the city would be assured.

The storm drain on Connolly Parkway under the Parkway overpass is clogged with sand and does not drain. It doesn’t drain every time it rains, and the street is flooded. It needs to be cleared.

Impossible to exit from Hamden High on to Dixwell/Connolly Pkwy esp. in AM - need green arrow from HHS driveway to go left (North) on Dixwell and longer green, intersection gets blocked and people run the red; dangerous!!

Behind the Hamden Commercial business areas, especially the Stop and Shop complex of stores. Where trash containers are left open and the wind blows trash on to the trail.
