  • 2015 Grand St Alameda, CA - Alameda

These Oil storage tanks are rusting badly and are directly across from single family homes. Its curious that the City allowed these homes to be built so close to this industrial petroleum storage facility, as I see children playing very close to this property quite frequently, but can something be done about these eyesores? Aside from the question of maintenance (if Pennzoil maintains the exterior of their tanks like this, what priority do they give for other maintenance and safety protocols?), can the City cite them for being an eyesore (Nuisance Conditions)? The planning department indicated to me that this area has been rezoned as residential and Pennzoil was grandfathered in, but it seems they should be required to maintain their storage tanks properly. Thanks in advance to our City officials for looking into this matter and advising if anything can be done (e.g is there no requirement that they properly maintain and routinely paint these huge, very publicly visible storage tanks?).

  • 2513 Blanding Ave Alameda, CA 94501, USA - Alameda

Many cars speed on Blanding Ave. between the stop sign at Broadway and the traffic light at Park. Also, There are no red painted curbs. Cars and, more critically, trucks park right on the corners blocking stop signs and visibility. It is difficult to cross the street on foot or car.

    There needs to be:
    1. A speed limit sign on both sides of the street WITH enforcement.
    2. Stop signs on Blanding Ave. at the corner of Everett Street OR at least a painted cross-walk.
    3. Speed bumps installed along this stretch.

This is a much used corridor and drivers are given no information about:
    1. The speed limit.
    2. The fact that this is a mixed use business/residential area.
    3. There is a Community Art Center located at the corner of Blanding and Everett with people coming and going all day. There are children's day camps and classes.

  • 1700 Central Ave Alameda, CA 94501, USA - Alameda

Central is a major cross-town bike route. The signal at Grand has no bicycle activation, unlike the loop at High St, the cameras in Pleasanton, or even the timed signals throughout Alameda.

  • 8th Street And Haight Avenue Alameda, CA 94501, USA - Alameda

Speeding cars on 8th Street make it very difficult to cross 8th at Haight Avenue. Seldom will a car stop for a pedestrian (as required by law); you must wait for a break in the flow of traffic.

  • 2681-2693 Blanding Ave Alameda, CA 94501, USA - Alameda

The railroad tracks along Tilden Avenue connecting to the out-of-service Fruitvale rail bridge where they cross Blanding Avenue look like they were installed in the Roosevelt administration, and haven't been touched since the railroad went out of service. The problem is potholes cause by the wooden planks between the rails being worked loose. It is a major traffic obstacle.

This has become a much busier intersection with the nearby shopping center, not to mention those taking a shortcut from High Street to Park Street. In peak hours, it is not uncommon to see block-long backups on Blanding (which back up further into the Nob Hill parking lot) which wouldn't be so bad if drivers didn't have to slow to 5 mph to enter the intersection to avoid damaging their cars!
