Lake Merritt Area

Notified About

  • Lakeshore Avenue And The Cleveland Cascade Oakland, CA - Lake Merritt

As with other pedestrian crosswalks in our community, this one at the Cleveland Cascade has no lighting to alert drivers that someone is crossing. I recently was almost hit when a driver began to brake as I approached and then accelerated through the crosswalk, narrowly missing me just as I stepped out into his or her path. This crosswalk needs the same blinking light system used in other area crosswalks.

  • 609 Vernon Street Oakland, CA 94610, USA - Grand Lake

City came by and blasted hole in street and then left it with orange cone. Needs to be fixed immediately. Huge and getting bigger with street traffic. Now it is a great hazard to cars and the neighborhood in general!

  • 482 Oak Street Oakland, CA - Produce And Waterfront

Most of the wall at the South East corner at the intersection between 5th street and Oak Street is plastered with random writing. It is highly visible from the freeway and is the major way Oakland Citizens access the 880 freeway. This makes the entire city look bad.

  • Lafayette Square Oakland, CA - Downtown

Lafayette Park needs lights that work. During the day, the park is bad enough, filled with bums drinking and doing drugs, and leaving their messes behind. But at night, these same nuisances become public safety issues due to the fact that there are few or no lights on in the park. These nuisances are territorial and threatening to anyone who walks by. After so much time and money was spent to fix up this park, it would be nice if tax-paying citizens of the neighborhood could feel safe enough to actually use it. Thanks.

  • 500-598 Webster Place Oakland, CA 94607, USA - Old City-Produce And Waterfront

I have reported this mattress at least three times only to have the issue closed each time. The mattress is still there and is now a place for homeless drug addicts to shoot drugs, why is this dangerous situation allowed to continue?

  • 612 Hillgirt Cir Oakland, CA - Cleveland Heights

Will post on Facebook for comment - PLEASE comment! On the corner of Wesley and Hillgirt Circle, Oakland, is a section of overgrown bushes, aloes and small trees which has grown overarching the sidewalk (from street side) and into the sidewalk from the homeowner's fence, impeding visibility ESPECIALLY in the darkness. It is a dangerous and unlighted section of sidewalk. At least one person was attacked in this location (my daughter). Passers by avoid this section of the block and for good reason, walking in the street instead which is not safe either. The bushes are so thick that a person could step back into them and be completely concealed from view. There is no streelight. The homeowners have declined to maintain the area outside their fence. As you can see from the photos, the area is very overgrown and impinging on the sidewalk. Imagine the person in the photograph dressed in black, at night. The Feet on the Street neighborhood lighting patrol group has observed this area; the entire neighborhood deems it to be unsafe; it was reported to public works last year by Hoang Banh, our Community Rep from OPD; neighbors on the Cleveland Heights Neighbors email group addressed the homeowners who have advised pedestrians "cross the street and walk there". FOS members attempted to petition the city for a streelight (1.5 years ago) but funding ran out before the petition was processed. Thank you for your attention. UPDATE: PARTIAL IMPROVEMENT BY HOMEOWNERS - THERE STILL NEEDS TO BE WORK DONE BY REMOVAL OF LARGE PINE TREES (NOT ALL PERHAPS EVERY OTHER ONE), ADDITIONAL STREET LIGHT, AND REMOVAL OF OVERGROWTH FROM YARD OVER SIDEWALK TO STREET.
