Be very careful crossing the tracks on your bike. Go slow and cross perpendicular to the rails. Signage is desperately needed. See http://groups.yahoo.com/group/elmcitycycling/message/8023

Thick smoke appears to be coming from the ship docked at the oil refinery (or maybe the refinery itself) and blowing into New Haven. It seems to be intermittent but incredibly foul smelling.

There are NO sidewalks on Woodward Avenue leading to Hannah's Dream, baseball fields & East Shore Park. There is a lot of construction here, why can't these kids get sidewalks to utilize the million dollar projects here?? It's as unsafe as those round a bouts!! UGH! Please help the kids of New Haven be able to use these wonderful parks. THey do no service to the community if the children from local schools & daycares can't access them safely. It's impossiable to walk thru the swampgrass without knee high boots on! The construction trucks have been there daily for a year-throw in some sidewalks!

Air quality in the city of New Haven is deplorable and has a severe impact on the health and quality of life of our residents. Despite the fact that New Haven already hosts more than its fair share of air polluting facilities, PSEG, the utility company who owns and operates Harbor Station, is seeking to build three new units as peaking power plants to be used when energy demand exceeds base-load supply. These plants will add pollution to our air in days when air quality is already at its worst: long hot sunny days when demand is high due to air conditioning and other uses. However, a net reduction in polluting emissions can be achieved from the site: the existing Harbor Station plant (Unit 1) runs primarily on oil. The three proposed, more modern, gas-fueled turbines are state-of-the art and run much more cleanly and efficiently than Unit 1. In addition, because of a new environmental justice law, the company has been talking to the city about a community benefits agreement that would address the true impact of their activities on our community. Please sign the petition to demand that Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG) commit to reduce polluting emissions from the totality of their Harbor Station operations and thus help improve the quality of the air in New Haven, CT.

The Hannah's dream playground in East Shore park is a wonderful place that gets lots of heavy use by children. There are some large cracks in the play surface that I think are dangerous for kids. The gaps are 4-6 inches wide and a few inches deep running almost all the way across the playground. Running children easily slip into them and I have seen them fall on them. There is also an overhead climbing area across from the large swings that has some nasty sharp and rusty wire exposed on the rungs.

This light used to work fine. Now it's often red for traffic coming off I-95 and green for the usually empty road coming up from the Gateway Terminal.

The green light on Rt. 1, Forbes Avenue, at the intersection of Wheeler street is only on for 15 seconds, causing backups every morning and evening rush hour. In the evening traffic is backed up all the way to the bridge because of this light. This is the only light that stays on for such a short time all the way to Woodward Avenue, and there is never any cross traffic at the light so there is no reason for the green light to be so short when so much traffic backs up!

Is the DOT waiting for someone to get killed before they do something about the mixture of oncoming high speed traffic approaching low speed traffic entering the highway while merging in the same lane? Enough is enough. Either re-open the old entrance ramp, which was 100 times safer, or put up signs to warn numerous out of state drivers, who are clueless about the merge, that the same lane they are driving in is going to be utilized by traffic entering the highway from the ramp. All of the changes have made the entire area completely unmanageable and dangerous, while leaving traffic flow at a standstill.

About once an hour or so, on what I can tell is no regular interval, there is a loud beeping noise. I have no idea where this is coming from, but since it is so infrequent, and only lasts about a second, it's impossible to track down.

It's driving me nuts, if anyone has any info it would be appreciated!

There is a sign that says engines must be cut after 3 minutes but it does not seem to be enforced.

    Who regulates this?
Are their fines for idling drivers?
