Friends of East Rock Park

The playground at East Rock Park (College Woods) is heavily used but for as long as I can remember, the latches at the two gates have never worked. This ain't good, folks. It's a safety issue for the kids who play there and a peace of mind issue for the parents of the kids.

2-3 HUGE deep potholes, may have been filled before but now are large, deep, and wide. Huge safety issue for cars and bikes

Was stopped at a traffic light this morning behind a cruiser, license plate 168 NH, and the driving officer was littering a food or candy wrapper out the driver's side window.

I have nothing but respect for New Haven's hard working officers, but if they don't have respect for my neighborhood, then they should get a new job. Completely unacceptable.

Men troll the parking lot at the upper entrance to East Rock Park, looking for anonymous sex. When a partner is found, they often head into the woods for oral and anal sex.

Especially on the Davis St. side of the East Rock Park, there's been an increase in the ongoing problem of people meeting up for sex in wooded areas of the park. Can't walk my dog without interrupting something, and definitely can't let my kid walk there alone.

Stupid graffiti is written with silver pen on the jungle gym at East Rock Park. It's graphic as @#$% and I'm not a prude myself but I can easily imagine that other parents will not be thrilled to see this, either; and frankly I wouldn't want to have to explain some of this crap to a five year old.... is this something the Parks Dept. will clean up or do citizens need to figure out a way to remove it?

Motorbikes continue to present an extraordinary danger to pedestrians and their children and cyclists by screaming up the closed road from English Drive to the summit of East Rock. On the evening of 8/7/12, for example, three motorbikes sped up that road around 7 p.m., imperiling many parents and their children, adults and their pets, and cyclists out for an evening stroll or ride on the closed road. Police are rarely visible at the park and a sense of lawlessness pervades the area, which is generally filthy. A firm presence is required at the pedestrian entrances on English drive and on Trowbridge, off of State Street.
