  • Intersection Of Route 110 Southbound And Old Country Rd Eastbound Melville, New York - Melville
When waiting at the traffic light which is located at the intersection of Route 110 and Old Country Rd and waiting to make a left turn from 110 southbound onto Old Country Road eastbound where there are 2 left turning lanes, I frequently have seen people for some reason mistake the large shoulder on the left to be another turning lane. I am not sure why they are not able to identify it as the shoulder as it is clearly marked with a solid yellow line but some people still seem oblivious to this. They enter the shoulder and make left turns onto Old Country Rd East. This is extremely dangerous as anyone actually in the real left most turning lane who wants to make a legal U-Turn could wind up driving right into these people who are using the shoulder as a lane. I realized there is a really simple fix for this to make the shoulder idiot-proof. Just have ridges cut into the shoulder similar to the ridges that run along the shoulders of the LIE which vibrate the car when driven over so the person knows for certain that they have entered the shoulder of the road. Problem solved. I hope someone out there of influence will be able to make this happen before someone gets hurt or killed. Thank you.

There are 3 lanes on the exit off of the east bound Northern State parkway's exit to 110. The left lane is left turn only. The right lane is right turn only And the center lane traffic is allowed to turn left or right or can go straight.

There is an extremely dangerous issue here due to horrible drivers. I can't tel you how many times I've seen someone in the right turning lane swing over 2 lanes of traffic to get into the left turning lane immediately after on 110 leading to Old Country Rd East.

I was just in the center lane with my right signal on the whole time waiting at a light. A black SUV got into the right turn lane AFTER I was already clearly sitting there with my right turn signal flashing before he even got there proving there was no way to miss my signal unless you were blind. Wen the light turned green this guy swung sharply left across 2 lanes of traffic almost hitting the passenger side of my car as we were both turning right at the same time and he swung over so far that I defensively had to go into the double yellow lined are on the left side of 110 immediately after the turn and he actually still swung in front of my car on the double yellow area himself, ignored my horn and then proceeded to get into the left most turning lane on 110 to Old Country Rd, when he could have much more easily gotten into the right most left turning lane. Unbelievable! This was the worst instance of this that I have seen but I have seen people do similar maneuvers many many times.

At the VERY LEAST, there should be a dashed line separating the turning lanes through the intersection. But really there is a strong need to post a police officer to watch this for a while. And perhaps the right most turning lane off the northern state exit should be marked "this lane to 110 south only - no turning left to old country road for this lane.

You have to realize a lot of people do not know how to drive or they are drunk and think it's normal to swung into other traffic.

There is a serious problem at this intersection. The Southbound traffic on 110 that is turning East onto Pinelawn Rd. between 6:00pm-7:00pm blows the red light daily and has no regard for the traffic heading Northbound on 110 at same intersection. A red light camera would be fantastic here!
