Red lights are OUT on Ellsworth Ave traffic signals going across Whalley. Green light is working, but both reds are dead.

THREE more car crashes *this* week alone (9/5/2020- 9/10/2020). The blinking yellow light (Ellsworth) + blinking red light (Edgewood) are ineffective & dangerous. The newish yellow posted signs of "Cross traffic does not stop" are *not* working, & we & the neighbors on this block continue to be concerned & frustrated that these crashes occur again & again & again. As this intersection is also a CTTransit spot with active riders, this makes it unsafe for pedestrians getting on/off buses.

Reporting the crashes at this same intersection time & again for years to our alder & the Dept. of Transportation, Traffic, & Safety has led to no meaningful change or increased safety. The car crashes continue. The screeching of tires from near misses is a daily sound. The traffic signals at this intersection cause confusion & danger so no pedestrian is safe here.

City signs about the Chapel Street bridge having been closed have been lying on the ground for weeks & weeks. The bridge is opened yet the signs were never picked up by the city. These are a hazard-- particularly as they are adjacent to an elementary school.

This intersection has seen *three* crashes in just over a week: 7/28, 8/5, & just now 8/8. These are just the ones I've been home to witness the aftermath. At least one was very severe involving a motorcycle & car, & I don't know if the motorcyclist survived. In my eight years of living here, crashes at this intersection are commonplace. No hyperbole-- crashes here happen with scary frequency.

It is clear, but I'd like the data to back up my assertion (who keeps crasj statistics?), that this traffic signal -- a blinking yellow on Edgewood and a blinking red on Edgewood-- is completely ineffective.

The city can no longer wait. We need immediate attention & intervention at this intersection. How many more crashes & potential fatalities are necessary before action?

    TWO STOLEN KIDS' BIKES:
    - Red Jamisx24
    - Light Blue Jamisx24

Swept-back handlebars (our upgrade) on both
    Stickers: "$0.00" on both
Red- "Evolution of Man" w/Riding at End & Brass Bell
Light Blue- "Carefree" looking like Carfree & Green Plastic Bell

Bought at the devil's gear bike shop in Summer 2010 so likely have Devil's Gear bike stickers as well

--Thieves broke into our garage in Edgewood neighborhood & stole these two bikes. We know we are unlikely to recover these & are bummed, but we appreciate you keeping an eye out. These were the first new bikes we purchased for them & Mitch actually was the one to fit the bikes for the boys back when DG was on Chapel.... Please share widely.

Street Sweeping signs are not up-to-date in our neighborhood. Our understanding is that street sweeping *only* happens when cardboard signs are posted. The permanent signs seemed to have been removed from places like East Rock BUT they remain here-- both on James and Saltonstall-- confusing drivers quite a bit. Can these signs be REMOVED or UPDATED?
  • State Street & Grand Avenue New Haven, Connecticut - Downtown

Rampant red light running at this intersection; noticed most particularly in morning rush hour.

We pass through this intersection every day on our way to school, some days by car and others by bike. We have grown increasingly alarmed with the frequency of drivers running the red light while driving on State Street. We seriously cannot recall a morning in the past week + that when our light turned green (Elm to Grand) that at least one car, if not more, raced through on State.

I know that CT did not pass the Red Light bill but is there anything that the City of New Haven can do about ENFORCEMENT of our traffic signals, most particularly in heavily trafficked areas?

  • Edgewood And Ellsworth Avenues New Haven, Connecticut - Edgewood

Car accident debris just left in the green strip (mall) on Edgewood Avenue.

There was yet *another* car accident at this intersection of Ellsworth & Edgewood Avenues last evening, 3/22/14. All the debris from the crash was simply left (including a city traffic sign that was knocked over). PLEASE help.

Does the City keep statistics about problematic locations that see frequent car accidents??? If so, this intersection definitely needs to be followed. The frequency of accidents here is astounding. It does not seem like the blinking yellow and blinking red lights are effective at all.

After (yet *another*) car accident at this intersection, a city street sign that was knocked over and debris from the crash have been left into the green strip.
  • 263 Chapel Street New Haven, Connecticut - Fair Haven

It seems that when the changeover to the new traffic signal on the corner of Chapel and James Streets happened, the timing for the light changes was also changed. Now it takes an excessively *long* time for the light to turn green for James Street drivers. This is particularly problematic because there are TWO SCHOOLS on James Street right near this corner so that at drop off and pick up time, traffic-- including school buses and families picking up and dropping off-- becomes extremely backed up on James, well past Saltonstall and in front of the Martinez School.

This morning, we actually thought the light was broken as we waited, and waited, and waited on James-- the longest we have ever waited in the five years we have worked in this neighborhood.

Please, please-- is there someone from the City, Transportation, Traffic, & Parking, that can come down to see this corner *in person*? Ever since the work began here last spring with the new electric box, pedestrian cross, etc., this corner is a mess, including serious wheelchair accessibility issues as the pedestrian cross pole was put in the middle of the sidewalk. Thank you.

  • 25 James Street New Haven, CT 06513, USA - Fair Haven
Transformer for new traffic signal placed right at bus stop and right near front door of school. Obstructs school bus stops! Sidewalk completely crowded with old and new traffic signal equipment.
  • 25 James Street New Haven, CT 06513, USA - Fair Haven
Hole was drilled in sidewalk multiple weeks ago by contractors of the city & just left. This is immediately in front of front door of school & bus stop. Dangerous! Plus, extremely poor planning if city sign will be put there. Obstructs bus stop.

Needs immediate attention. Corner of two schools- lots of kids walking here daily.
