Located on the island on Pierce Drive and south of North Drive. This tree, about 75 feet tall and 24 inches in diameter, is leaning at probably a 30 degree angle and when it falls will damage nearby homes. But more of an issue is if it falls, it could fall on a auto passing underneath, crushing it and possibly severely injure the occupants or worse! The photo was taken at 5:00 pm, since then the position of the tree has worsened. This tree was verticle earlier in the day and has been compromised by the high winds today.

The city needs to send a couple of workers with leaf blowers downtown and blow all of the leaves off of the sidewalks in front of the businesses along Michigan Ave., both north and south sides between Grand and Hamilton, before the snow covers and freezes them in place. Blow them into the street and let the car tires take care of mulching them. This will visually help with the appearance of the downtown area for visitors and shoppers!

I am aware of the budgetary constraints the city is facing, however at a very minimum, we need the chuck holes filled and patched at all of the crosswalks along Michigan Ave. in the downtown area! The crosswalks are dangerous for all citizens with holes of varying size and depth present. Patching and filling the holes located between the white lines at the crosswalks would be helpful in preventing twisted ankles or possibly broken bones if causing a fall. With darkness earlier now, some are difficult to see. At least between the lines!

The following ordinance is not being enforced and the use of bicycles, skateboards and rollerblades has increased dramatically on the downtown sidewalks, specifically, Michigan Avenue. The city needs to install signage in each of the downtown blocks and in both directions. Notices should then be made available and published in the AdVisor as well as in the monthly city newsletter. Not against bicycle riding, rollerblading or skateboarding. However, shoppers and pedestrians on Michigan Ave. are at risk of being hit and injured because a large majority of those using bicycles, etc., are also concentrating more on what they are doing on their cell phones than paying attention to pedestrian traffic.

    Bookmark§ 70.013 BICYCLES.
    (A) The hands of the operator of a bicycle shall be on the handle bars at all times, except when he or she is in the act of signaling. (Prior Code, § 75.30)
    (B) No person shall operate a bicycle at a speed greater than is reasonable and prudent under the conditions then existing. (Prior Code, § 75.31)
    (C) Riding on Sidewalks or Certain Streets Generally.
    (1) No person shall ride any bicycle upon any sidewalk, part of sidewalk or street where signs have been erected prohibiting bicycle riding. Whenever any person is riding a bicycle upon a sidewalk, the person shall yield the right-of-way to any pedestrian and shall give audible signal before overtaking and passing any pedestrian.
    (2) No person shall ride a bicycle, unicycle, tricycle, skateboard , roller blades, roller skates or similar device upon any sidewalk adjacent to Michigan Avenue between Grand Street and Exchange Street at any time, nor on any sidewalk in any city park adjacent to Michigan Avenue including, but not limited to Carver and Brooks Memorial Parks, at any time, nor shall any person under the age of 12 years of age ride a bicycle in the street on Michigan Avenue between Grand Street and Exchange Street; provided, however, that, the person may ride across Michigan Avenue where it intersects with Grand, Eagle, Jefferson, Madison, Hamilton, High or Exchange Streets; nor shall any person ride a skateboard or other similar device on city-owned parking Lot No. 2 (also called Myers' Lot) or city-owned parking Lot No. 10 (also called Schuler's Lot) or city owned alleyways, at any time; nor shall any person, except on Sundays and legal holidays, ride a skateboard or similar device on any other city-owned parking lot between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. daily, except Fridays, which activity is prohibited between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. (Prior Code, § 75.35)

    Tim,
Time to revisit the house on the northwest corner of E. Green and S. Marshall, you have been there before. The sidewalks on the north side of E. Green and west side of S. Marshall are once again being encroached upon by the plants/shrubs. Also, the grass in that area, for the corner house, has to be over 12 inches in height.

Just when you think you've seen it all! Not bad enough putting up with the issue at the parking structure, and the regular occurrence of dog droppings on the downtown sidewalks along Michigan avenue. Now we have to play dodge-um with horse poop when trying to help support local businesses. Rumor has it that two (2) females were seen riding horses on the sidewalks thru the downtown area. Guess being a city sidewalk, that means a city crew will have to pick it up!!! Photo attached for the record.

Would you be so kind as to ask the owner/proprietor, of the Shops at Marshall House, if they would trim back the assortment of shrubs that are located on their property. They overhang the public right-of-way and sidewalk on E. Green St. by more than 50%.

Specifically, this sidewalk is located on the north side of E. Green St. and just west of Exchange Street.

Photo is attached and looking east toward Exchange Street.

And we thank you for your support!

Now the lid on the Cigarette Receptacle/Smokers Station/Butt Can on the east side of the parking structure is off and the bucket is overflowing which could possibly be considered as a health hazard and blighted area.
The areas behind the Oaklawn ER on Prospect St where there are also a couple of Cigarette Receptacle/Smokers Station/Butt Cans, are always policed, the lids are never off or overflowing as is and was the case at the parking structure. Might just be time for Oaklawn to inform visitors that smoking is allowed at the Visitor and Employee Patio area in the northwest corner of the rear parking lot.
