After the city fixed the sidewalk on our (and all the corners of Oregon Ave.) to include better handicapped access, they added a patch of gravel in place of where a patch of grass was. It is frankly a mess, and being on the corner next to a school and a bus stop, the gravel is being picked up, kicked, and thrown all over. I think it's only a matter of time before someone throws a stone at my dog who is always in the back yard or at someone's car or house. It was an exceptionally not well thought out idea and it needs to be filled in with concrete ASAP. I'm hoping this is actually the city's plan to come back and finish it up once they've finished all the other corners, but I'm growing doubtful by the day.
