Traffic/Street Sign ArchivedOld Hwy 431 Huntsville, AL, 35763, USA - HuntsvilleThe reduced speed school zone along Old Highway 431 for Hampton Cove Elementary and Middle Schools during activated morning period is frequently ignored or violated by drivers. Many westbound drivers slow from 55 to 45 mph, obeying the flashing yellow lights when activated, but once past the Audobon Lane intersection, roughly only 1/3 of the speed zone's length, reaccelerate either through a green traffic light, or accelerate to highway speed after a red light changes to green. An additional school zone flashing yellow light should be placed to remind westbound drivers it is still a school zone west of Audobon Lane.

At the rear of the property, sections of sidewalk along Little Cove Rd are completely blocked by overgrown shrubs and very low hanging tree branches, consequently preventing pedestrians from using the sidewalk, and rather forcing pedestrian traffic toward or into Little Cove Rd street.

Missing Speed Limit Sign Archived2250 Little Cove Rd Huntsville, Alabama - HuntsvilleThree summers ago the 25 MPH speed limit sign on the eastbound side of Little Cove Rd located about 50 yards east of Ripple Ln was knocked down (perhaps by a large grass mower). It remained along side of the road for a couple of months, but was never re-erected or replaced, but presumable should have been. Request replacement to inform drivers unfamiliar with the area, that despite the yellow-striped road, the speed limit is still 25 MPH.

Traffic/Street Sign ArchivedGovernonrs Dr Se Huntsville, Alabama - HuntsvilleAbout three months ago the 50 mph speed limit sign on southbound Governors Dr shortly past Parkhill Rd disappeared. That sign signified the increase in speed limit from 45 mph. Presumably the speed limit from that point past the crest of the hill remains 50 mph -- the paralleling northbound (towards Huntsville) lane's posted limit remains 50 mph. If the speed limit remains 50 mph, then the sign should be replaced; if it changed to be a continuance of 45 mph, then a sign indicating that would be helpful to ensure drivers frequenting the area do not assume the limit is higher.

Given the multiple intersections and traffic congestion from Audobon Ln to US 431, it seems the prudent speed limit should be 45 mph. -

Additional signage reminding drivers it is still a school zone west of Audobon Lane may be helpful. Rigorous enforcement by Huntsville Police Department would be more helpful to ensure the intended safe speed of 35 mph is adhered to during zone activation periods.

School zone speed enforcement Archived509-593 Marsheutz Ave Sw Huntsville, Alabama - HuntsvilleNew reduced speed school zone in vicinity of Hampton Cove Elementary and Middle Schools during activated morning period is becoming frequently ignored and violated by drivers. Enforcement, versus mere police presence, is needed to ensure the safe speed driving conditions intended during zone activation periods.
