  • 318 Doherty Street Fall River, MA 02720, USA - Fall River
This blighted property at 318 Doherty Street has been an issue for quite some time now. At one point, the house was the home to squatters before it was boarded up.
The property is overgrown with a jungle of weeds, vines, poison ivy... You name it and it's probably there! For the neighbors living next door, not only is it an eyesore, but it is a health issue too. The overgrowth is terrible for people with pulmonary issues, such as asthma, and the high grass is a magnet for ticks.
There have been numerous complaints about this property at 318 Doherty Street and yet nothing seems to come of it. As a resident, I implore the city to find a resolution for this issue before it becomes an even greater problem.
  • 1626 Locust Street Fall River, MA 02723, USA - Fall River

The issue on these lights has been going on in this intersection for the past 2 years, and despite numerous people issuing complaints, I am shocked that nothing has been done to get them finally back to how they were. I will say that recently, it appears that the left turn lane signals are finally working as they should - that when a car is approaches, the sensors pick it up and activate the signal, as opposed to a constant rotation of the lights regardless of if there is traffic or not - however there are still issues with Locust Street and Eastern Avenue.

Now, the Locust Street signals have been given priority over Eastern Avenue/Route 6 North and South bound traffic. Traffic is far heavier on Eastern Avenue/Route 6 than Locust Street, and yet the Locust Street lights stay green for double the time the Eastern Avenue lights stay green. Also, unless a car approaches on Eastern Avenue, the traffic light stays on the red.

Until 2 years ago, these lights functioned as follows: Eastern Avenue North and South bound traffic was given priority and the lights stayed green unless either Locust Street and/or Left Turn Lane traffic approached the intersection and activated the sensors underground. If either or both Locust Street and the Left Turn lanes were occupied, then the Eastern Avenue traffic was stopped, Locust Street was given the green, followed by the Left Turn Lane if applicable, then the green went back to Eastern Avenue and remained green until another car approached from Locust Street or the Left Turn Lane. That was how the light pattern was set since day one and it lasted for more than a decade until Summer 2012. In fact, this new pattern has been so bad that during the school year, traffic backs up to the point where more and more people are cutting across and speeding down side streets just to avoid the intersection, which poses another safety concern for the neighborhood. Whenever I come over the hill on the northbound side, I have to constantly slam on my brakes because traffic is backed up instead of flowing like it should on Eastern Avenue, the main thorough fair.

There is a reason why these lights worked so well for 10 plus years and I IMPLORE you to revisit this issue and get these lights working properly again.

I am writing ask why the right turn lane traffic light for west bound President Avenue traffic turning right onto Elsbree Street was taken down and replaced with a No Turn On Red sign. Traffic flows bad enough at this intersection, and now, something that actually helps the flow of traffic is removed?!

I don't know the reasoning behind this, however, I can guarantee that CVS parking lot is now going to become an even more dangerous hazard because more and more drivers are going to try and race through the lot to avoid the ridiculous traffic jams that this change will cause, and as a result, you're going to see many more accidents.

  • Eastern Avenue Fall River - Fall River

I am inquiring about when the Eastern and North Eastern Avenue sections of Route 6 are going to be resurfaced, from New Boston Road to Martine Street? The road is quite old and heavily travelled, much like Plymouth Avenue, and is need of a serious overhaul. The medians have half-existing curbing, potholes and ruts up and down both sides, old pedestal traffic lights, additions of left turn lanes needed at the County, Bedford, and Martine Street intersections, etc.

Any plans for the next year or two?

There is some kind of electrical wire coming off the telephone pole in front of 11 Crestwood Street. This wire has been here since the fall when it was noticed laying across the culdesac. We called the police station to report it and the dispatcher said they would have someone look at it. Next thing we know, the officer that cane wrapped around the pole but no utility workers were ever called and it has been this way since. Some of it is now de-coiling and one of the plow trucks this winter almost got it stuck on the front of the plow. Please inspect as soon as possible!

I chose "other" because to choose "pothole" would be a vast understatement! New Boston Road has become Fall River's own slalom course over the past two years and this year, it has become increasingly poor. Truth be told, it is greatly surprising to me that this main road, a road in which many emergency vehicles use due to its direct path the Charlton, has been so poorly maintained. As a city resident, and one of the hundreds that use this road everyday, I kindly request that the section of New Boston Road between Robison Street and Eastern Avenue be completely resurfaced. To continue "patching" this street would be a waste of time and money.
