the comments posted on most of the stories i've read are incredibly offensive on the registers articles. many do nothing to promote dialogue and only attempt to attack people. it is mostly anonymous and negative ranting. it is far from constructive.

many online news sources require that comments are reviewed by a moderator before they are actually posted.

does the register not believe that they are responsible for the way that commenters use their site?

  • 54 Mechanic St New Haven, CT - East Rock
the drain in front of 54 mechanic street is full of leaves and garbage, creating a huge puddle several car lengths across spanning the street and sidewalk during rainy days.
    this is often a problem.

extremely deep pothole on olive just before turning onto grand.
(might give someone a flat tire or screw up someones axle.)
  • Willow St & Interstate 91 New Haven, CT 06511, USA - Cedar Hill

the willow street exit off of 91 (exit 6? the one with the extremely sharp turn) is without lights again.

(it's very dangerous at night, especially like a rainy night last night getting a ride with a friend who had no idea how sharp the curve was...)

i had the pleasure of walking past a woman that works at vacancy busters on state street on my way to work recently while she replaced the balloons they keep tied to the signpost outside their office on state street.

she walked out with new balloons, to replace the day-or so-old balloons, in one hand, and scissors in the other hand, cutting the ribbons to the old balloons to let them fly off into the air.
this may seem like a small thing to some, but a) if they have balloons on their signpost constantly then this littering is an almost daily action, b) balloons are a danger to wildlife that mistake them for food when they end up in the water and c) there is a law against releasing balloons.

i challenged her when i saw this being done, and she smirked and shrugged it off as though she didn't care the slightest bit.

be a better neighbor, vacancy busters!

despite traffic stopped from other directions, a red hand stops pedestrians from walking across elm street about 2/3rds of the time that they could safely walk.
this signal needs to be timed so that pedestrians don't sit idle while they could be crossing the street.
  • 1476 Whalley Ave New Haven, CT 06515, USA - Amity

the intersection of whalley and rte 63 is enormous, and has lights installed for six different roads to enter.

there is more than enough space for a traffic circle. this would minimize idling time and traffic would move more smoothly.

  • 703-753 State St New Haven, CT 06511, USA - Downtown
the fencing on both sides of the highway overpass on state next to bradley are broken, bent, rusted, and overgrown with weeds. this is not only a safety issue (they should prevent access to the highway) but also an aesthetic one (the disrepair encourages constant illegal dumping of trash).
the DOT should fix this soon!
  • Orange St New Haven, CT 06511, USA - East Rock

racist and abusive behavior by a metro taxi driver should result in his termination. Metro Taxi cab number 181 spewed racist remarks and spit on a child.

boycott metro taxi until this man is fired for his unacceptable actions.

(calls to headquarters to discuss this matter have not been returned.)

the lock has been cut on the gate blocking cars through the school to cut through to willow.
i know the school is closed, but when there is a straight path to willow, drivers speed down the tight one way, probably to rush to the highway. it is definitely noticeable and makes my neighborhood feel less safe.

also, it appears the lights have been left on in the abandoned school, in the windows facing the ball field closest to willow.

  • 109 Mechanic St New Haven, CT 06511, USA - East Rock

why are the lights on at the blake playing fields every night, even though it seems there have been no games recently (as far as i can remember this summer) ?

it's 9:15 and no one is in sight there right now, but all the lights are on.

AT&T, while it is awesome that you are in town, you are not the best caretaker of your parking lots. you did trim the weeds a bit recently, but it still looks pretty awful.

maybe you have more space than you need? cars are never parked all the way up to the state street side. how about you convert it to a park where your staff can eat lunch outside? or donate some space to the city for a park? all that dead space helps make that stretch of state street feel like a wasteland.

  • 119 177 Orange St New Haven, CT 06510, USA - 770 Chapel Big

does the 360 state project include bike parking?

i think downtown would benefit from a large, covered bike shelter for residents and visitors to safely leave their bikes while accessing local businesses, etc.

  • 157 Church St New Haven, CT 06510, USA - Town_Green

i recently learned of this project in south bronx, and i am incredibly inspired. i am interested in linking up with others interested in getting a similar job training center going in new haven.

"The BEST Academy not only connects residents of the South Bronx and other Environmental Justice communities to employment opportunities, but helps create an economically sustainable South Bronx. The entire community benefits from the increased number of residents who have marketable skills and can now contribute to the economic revitalization of the neighborhood. The BEST Academy links environmental clean-up and restoration in the community to the career development and economic needs of local people."

    fantastic.
