This pier may be too unsound for a fire truck or emergency vehicle,
but it COULD be opened to controlled volume pedestrian and fishing users.

Decades are too long for leaving something like this closed.

I urge the City to open this on weekends, with an emergency response plan that does not involve driving a truck out to the end.

  • 1070 40th St Oakland, CA, 94608, USA - Longfellow

Alligator pavement, clearly PCI zero section.
Note the Emeryville border in the photo, this is on the Oakland side.

The pavement looks relatively new, just something settled below.

Ankle twisting hole in sidewalk, approaching the neglected pier, near the once proud sundial.
  • 884 57th St Emeryville, CA, 94608, USA - Santa Fe

The new signal is much appreciated! Thanks for making this intersection better.

This is the 57th / Adeline / Market intersection, a huge open space.

But there's a light timing issue. 57th street is given far too much green time. There's hardly ever a car there, and I don't think I've ever seen two. But all legs of the intersection wait for too long, even if there are no pedestrians.

    Please retime this light!

  • Stanford Ave Emeryville, CA, 94608, USA - Santa Fe
Developing and expanding pothole, Market at Stanford.
There are several, it looks like the top layer of asphalt is separating from a lower level. Either way this pothole cluster is small but growing.
  • 1586 Hopkins Street Berkeley, California - Berkeley
Utility work here left numerous edges and sunken sections along Hopkins from Monterey to Josephine. A bad one for cyclists is in the business district, where the edge of the utility trench is exactly the riding distance from car doors.
  • 59 Kenyon Ave Kensington, CA - Kensington
A drainage pipe here failed in the mid-1990's, and continues to cause problems. The potential responsible parties all disclaim ownership, leaving the repair in limbo.
  • 59 Kenyon Avenue Kensington, CA - Kensington

Drain pipe channeling stormwaters from Highland Boulevard down to Kenyon is failed.

  • 257 Arlington Avenue Kensington, CA - Kensington
The lowest section of this public path is all but impassible due to overgrowth. The last reported regular use was in the 1980's. The path continues above from Yale to Stanford which it has been refurbished, then on to Cambridge where it serves as primary access to homes.
  • Potter Street Berkeley, CA - Berkeley

Some of the most heaved and broken pavement in Berkeley lies on this stretch. The road is often patched, but the patches soon wear out.

This has been written up in Chronicle Watch, and been the subject of many City of Emeryville Bike/Ped Meetings. Unfortunately the road mostly serves Emeryville, but it is a shared right of way between Caltrans and City of Berkeley.

    Thus it gets neglected.

It needs a "full depth" reconstruction, and would be a very valuable place to add a sidewalk or shared use pathway.
