the lights on rte 80 are so ill-timed and every day, from 4-6pm, traffic backs up onto I-91 northbound for about 1/2-3/4 mile and can take a driver up to 45 minutes just to get through the traffic on rte 80 into east haven. every work day is the same issue. if the lights were timed better, more traffic would move through and decrease traffic, as well as accidents of people not expecting to need to stop on a highway lane. this is even worse in the summer when Friday traffic on 95 is bad, everyone who lives on the shoreline takes rte 80. I've been stuck there for upwards of an hour sometimes trying to just travel 2 miles. absolutely horrible. something as simple as traffic light timing would completely solve this issue. lights need to be synchronized up until you're just past all the fast food restaurants.

on certain (not every) afternoon around 4:30, the light stays red at the intersection of audubon and state streets. cars on audubon start to back up all the way to whitney avenue. the red light has been timed to stay on about 12 minutes at a time, and when turns green, stays on for about 7 seconds after which it turns red. the honking and lines are incredible when this happens. it has once taken me 30 minutes to travel 1/2 block to get onto state street.
