  • 150 Fans Rock Rd Hamden Connecticut - Hamden

For the past several months a steady torrent of water has been coming out of this front yard, down the street, and down the storm drain. I drive past it daily and haven't seen it let up once. I initially though it might be normal runoff from higher in the neighborhood, but even when everything was frozen solid at 9 degrees this winter...water was still pouring down the street.

Photos on Google Earth from a couple of years ago don't show any water. Could it be a broken pipe or broken sprinkler? The attached photo doesn't show it properly, its a steady flow running down the street.

  • Sacket Point Road/Quinnipiac River north haven, Connecticut - North Haven

The bridge here has been crumbling for years. Its so bad at this point that there's very little left, I'm almost afraid to drive across it, no joke.

Is there some odd jurisdictional problem over who fixes this? North Haven maintains its roads, but since this crosses a waterway does it belong to the state or water authority? In any case it need to be fixed soon.

  • 3550 Whitney Ave Hamden, CT - Hamden

Last night I was driving north on Whitney and turned into the Hamden Bike Center. It was 6pm and fully dark and at the last second I realized I was about to drive into the curb. The curb was too high to drive over and I had a split-second to think…my only choice was to back up to do a 3-point turn in the road. This was during 50mph rush hour on Whitney, there was lots of honking, stopped traffic, etc.

Looking at it the curb in the daylight I see why this happened: instead of white cement the curb is built up out of black asphalt and blended into the lot, making it literally impossible to see in the dark. Hamden needs to paint this curb white or somehow make it more visible. I can’t be the only person who has made this mistake.

I travel this way daily and see a LARGE number of people roll though or simply disregard the 4-way stop signs. There's a school there, and people deciding when they want to obey stop signs is a bad idea (the broken window theory). I wish Hamden police would place a higher priority on ticketing speeders and people disobeying traffic signs.
  • 778 Choate Avenue Hamden, Connecticut - Hamden
When the snow plows came through last winter one cracked open and partly removed a cement storm drain in the gutter. Probably a pain to fix as it will need replacing, but after the excellent paving job last year it makes the road look bad. Not exactly safe either.
  • Potholes Archived
324 Fans Rock Road Hamden, Connecticut - Hamden
As you take a right from West Woods onto Fans Rock, there are 3 to 4 deep potholes that need to be fixed before winter. This spot has always been bad because every car tire pounds the same place when going onto Fans Rock. Patching them doesn't help unfortunately as the hole gets opened up again within a couple of weeks.
  • Downa Road And Brooks Road Hamden, Connecticut - Bethany
Hamden has done a great job in paving the West Woods/Downs Rd areas but one spot was missed. There is s 200 foot section where Downs road 'crosses' Lake Waltrous that is crumbling and fragmenting. I suspect the Water Authority controls this portion of the road somehow...but doesn't Hamden own the land that its water supply comes from? In any case the road needs repaving.
  • 1 Still Hill Hamden, Connecticut - Hamden
When at the stop sign going onto West Woods from Still Hill, there are tree limbs on the right blocking the view of the road...making pulling out very difficult. Can Hamden please cut these limbs like they did last year? Thanks.
  • Westwoods And Fans Rock Hamden, Connecticut - Hamden
When at the stop sign going onto Fans Rock to West Woods, there are tree limbs on the right blocking the view of the road...making pulling out very difficult. We were almost just in an accident because we could not see an oncoming car. Can Hamden please cut these limbs like they did last year? Thanks.
  • 555 Universal Dr North Haven, CT - North Haven
When you're leaving the main BJs parking lot and entering Universal drive...there's a Stop sign on the right. Since this intersection is controlled by stop light, I can't think of a reason there's a stop sign there. Is it supposed to take precedence under certain situations? I suspect its left over from pre stop-light days but no one ever removed it. North Haven should remove it and use it elsewhere where its needed.
  • Intersection Of Shepherd And Sherman Hamden, CT - Hamden_Feature 001

I drive this way daily and it seems with every light change that the 1st car in the left turn lane on Shepherd going left towards Sherman/Hamden Hills DR, has to cut across in front of the oncoming Shepherd traffic to "be first" when the light goes green.

This is annoying and dangerous and results in honking horns and people hitting their brakes. I think the lights need to be staggered differently to prevent people from doing this...or put a cop car there and write a dozen tickets a day "failure to yield right of way".

  • 3 Davis St CT 06517 - Hamden

For the past few months left lane drivers on Whitney, going towards New Haven, sitting at the red light, have started flooring it across the intersection to beat traffic when the light turns green...taking a left onto Davis. Honking horns and angry drivers are the result. This happens 90% of the time I stop at that light which is a minimum of twice a day.

With a day-school entrance at that intersection there will be a pile-up or worse one day if something is not done to make people start obeying the signals.

SUGGESTION: The Hamden police need to station an unmarked car and ticket every single car that does this for "failure to yield right of way".

  • 243 Mather St Whitneyville, CT 06517 - Hamden
Mather between Martin terrace and Dixwell has deep potholes and ruts. Cars regularly drive in wrong lane to avoid the hazards. This has needed repair for several years, a full paving is needed rather than spotty patching. I almost wonder of this part of the road is owned by the Water Authority rather than the Town of Hamden which is why it's never repaired.
