Driving north on Route 1 around 6:15 PM. Driver came out around a UPS truck and my car, crossing the double line, speeding off at a rate of approximately 65 mph.
  • Route 17 Union, Maine - Knox County

Bridgework on Route 17 in area of Buzzle Rd. Travelling west from Rockland on Saturday, DOT has construction work signs, but nothing indicating a stop signal ahead until drivers are already in view of the stop signal. The same is true travelling east.

I was obeying all variations in speed limits, but still had to apply brakes hard due to blind curve and road depression, because the Signal Light ahead warning sign is right on the site, not far enough back to alert drivers. This is absurd and dangerous.

  • Route 1 Thomaston, Maine - Knox County
Given that there is insufficient law enforcement, set up a call-in centers.. License numbers accumulating X number of calls would then have the drivers contacted by local officials, or, at least, send out a computer-generated warning. Put the sedentary Emergency Management People on it. This is an emergency. If they can do it in Massachusetts for those odd toll-booth-less tolls, then it could be done in Maine for this. Last straw - I saw a driver pass driver ahead of me who was going right into a right hand turn - there was no delay, but the driver had to crossing the double line, because he or could not wait. Sun was blinding on the road at that time. 30 mph speed zone. Convinced that drivers believe they are not really driving, but that it is a video game with no effect. Enough.
  • Route 1 Atlantic Highway Warren, Maine - Knox County
One guy was determined to drive right through my car. He forced me off the road. I was doing the speed limit. Enact legislation to increase patrols, and let license revocation be the first "warning." Speeding, reckless "destination-focused" drivers have made driving hell.
  • Congress St. Portland, Maine - Portland
Even the workers on the ground looked nervous while this thing was being manipulated. Driving under it was bad enough. Standing, walking, working in buildings under it? Are all safety measure in place and enforced?
  • Route 1 Damariscotta to Thomaston, Maine - US Congressional District ME1

I recall when road paving was a beautiful thing that made sense. What is DOT thinking of with this intermittent paving that, for one, obliterates new, needed white lines painted only weeks ago, and, for another, is paving parts of Route 1 that did not need it?

Certainly, drivers would avoid Thomaston for the next two years for the construction there, but the addition of the sketchy road paving makes it all the worse.

Why would DOT pave just over half a lane, and leave it. Why pave these parts of the road at all when there was nothing wrong with them compared to other parts of Route 1.

  • Route 1 Belfast, Maine - Belfast
Memorial weekend approaches. Law enforcement will be checking for seat belt use. Fine. But what about constant speeding? Example today: driver in a black car, with handicapped plates, was doing 70 mph from Lincolnville north. That driver was gone in the blink of an eye. This was the rule, not the exception. Me, maybe a few other drivers, were not exceeding the speed limit. Most were, and by 20 mph. No adjustment for varying posted limits either. I'll pay more in taxes to fund enforcement. I'll pay more in taxes to fund larger speed limit signs. Either enforce the speed limits or abandon them, please.
  • Route 17 Warren, Maine - Knox County
I don't much care how much it would cost to crack down on speeding and dangerous driving, but either all the speed limit signs get removed, or limits must be enforced.
  • Union St. Rockland, Maine - Rockland
My guess is these drivers have never HAD to walk anywhere. I saw one young girl engulfed with water from a pothole, thanks to the clueless driver. This happens everywhere. Driver's just looking 3 miles ahead and completely unaware of their immediate surroundings. Also, sitting on top of other vehicle bumpers at red lights. What does that DO for people.
  • 234 Camden Street Rockland, Maine - Rockland
Long-standing problem. You'd save gas turning off the vehicle than sit idling when attempting to leave Harbor Plaza. It's almost as bad at Glen St. This is serious sitting and waiting for a green light.

    295 Portland, Maine - Portland
Enforce headlight laws. Even with heavy downpour, and on 295, and across Maine, many drivers did not have headlights on in diminished conditions. It is the law that headlights must be on when wipers are on. Invisible cars travelling at 70 mph.
  • Route 1 Rockport, Maine - Knox County
Need legislation. Drivers passing slowed, turning vehicles on the right at high speeds. Do not slow down. Passing as soon as they see a car ahead attempting to make a left turn, even with no oncoming cars. Tremendously dangerous, this occurs even within towns where there are crosswalks and non-visible pedestrians. Legislation is needed.
  • Maverick Route 17 Rockland, Maine - Rockland
State and City need to look hard at this intersection. What is the cause of the frequent accidents according to police reports. Also, either make it a true right turn onto Maverick St from Old County Rd., or put up a barrier because leaving it dirt didn't help. There may need to be an advance left from 17 to Old County Rd., and an advance right from Maverick onto Old County Rd. And, put officers there.
  • 135 U.S. 1 Verona Island, Maine - Waldo County
DOT needs to install lights, road arrows, and paint. Bad enough without rain, but with rain, it's amazing drivers don't end up in the outcrop. Seriously.
  • 350 Main Street Thomason, Maine - Thomaston
There has been a deep hole alongside Route 1, at Wadsworth, near the Mercantile It was reported to the town but the town has ignored it, much to the detriment of vehicles and pedestrians.

  • 295 Freeport, Maine - Cumberland County
I was going North on 295, and between Portland Freeport, when I came upon a large white goose, strolling across 295. Please corral your geeze.
  • Atlantic Highway Route1 Damariscotta, Maine - US Congressional District ME1
These old cars are great, but drivers need to leave a break every 4 cars or so to allow for passing, (4o mph), although there was constant northbound traffic making that unsafe - so how about pulling over every now and then when its safe.
  • Camden Street Rockland, Maine - Rockland
Snow layers on ice. Bad winds and blowing snow. Even dump trucks sliding. Stay home tonight. Take care.
  • Route 52 Lincolnville, Maine - Waldo County
How many accidents more will it take for drivers to get a clue. Around 2PM this afternoon, not one, but two SUV's passed us on the double line and took off fast. The speed limit was 40 mph. They must have been doing over 45-50 mph, and they came up on the car out of nowhere. There were icy spots on the road, especially in the area where the two drivers passed. The posted speed limit and road conditions meant nothing to them. I guess they were immortals. Nice going.
