  • Exit 185 Bangor, ME, 04401, USA - Bangor
The warning signs as you exit the Interstate to go onto Broadway claim that there are stop signs at the ends of the off-ramps. There are no stop signs, as those intersections have traffic lights. The warning signs should be replaced with the correct signs.
  • Maine Turnpike Scarborough, Maine - Scarborough

Most people are good about not hogging the left lane, but this road has many people who hog the middle lane. According to the signs and the state law (Maine Revised Statutes, Title 29-A, §2052), both the middle and left lanes are to be used for passing only, and drivers are required to move back to the right lane when done passing.

Since truckers can't use the left lane, middle lane hoggers end up blocking the only lane they can use to pass.

  • Stillwater Avenue Bangor, Maine - Bangor
They painted new guide striping in the intersection to guide people to the "correct" lane as they turn. If you are turning left from Stillwater Avenue Southbound to go to I-95 Southbound, the left lane seems to get either of the through lanes, and the right lane gets... what, the break-down-lane? I think someone goofed!
  • Highway 3 Augusta, Maine - Augusta

Two lanes exit the rotary side by side at this location, and then, with little warning or space, merge into one lane.

The state either needs to put up signs reminding exiting drivers to take turns ("Alternate Merge") or, if that wasn't the intention, let us know which lane is the ending lane, so that drivers know which lane has the right of way.

  • Civic Center Drive Augusta, Maine - Augusta
As you get off exit 112A to go toward the mall, the university, etc., there's a traffic light at the end of the on-ramp. The two over-head traffic lights are so dim, they might as well be invisible during daylight hours! I think it is time for some new light bulbs!
  • Highway 3 Palermo, Maine - Waldo County
This stretch of road, particularly the east-bound slow-lane, is probably the worst stretch of road on Route 3.
  • Stillwater Avenue Bangor, Maine - Bangor

The idea behind a merge lane is to facilitate easy merging on the Interstate. For them to work properly, they need to be long enough that driver's can match the speed of the traffic already on the interstate. Did they assume everyone had a 600 HP muscle car when they built this?

This whole configuration has been lousy since it was built! But they really cut a lot of corners in safety when they made that merge lane as short as they did!

  • Belfast Road Freedom, Maine - Waldo County

The speed limit signs as you come into and leave Freedom Village are missing. Coming from Albion, the speed limit would drop to 40, and then to 30. Then as you go through Freedom, it goes back up to 40, and then to 50. Some of the signs are missing.

In particular, the sign that lowers the in-town speed limit to 30 mph is not there, and that could be dangerous for anyone who might not be familiar enough with the area to know to slow down, and for any local residents who might want to cross the street!

  • Stillwater Avenue Bangor, Maine - Bangor
There are two right turn lanes at this intersection, but three lanes on Stillwater Avenue. People in the two right-turn lanes do not seem to understand which lanes they are supposed to turn INTO on Stillwater, so we should have some lane markings through the intersection to guide people into the proper lane. Like they used to have for the dual left turns from Hogan Road to the mall.
  • Us 1a And Me 69 Winterport, ME - Winterport
The light bulbs in the blinking yellow lights for this intersection are not working.
  • 216 West Main Street Searsport, ME - Waldo County

Drivers coming out of the Searsport Shores campground (and at Moose Point State Park a little farther down the road) often pull right out in front of Route 1 traffic, forcing them to hit the brakes. This is downright suicidal on a road with a 55 mile an hour speed limit. They don't even try to accelerate out of the way, they just plod along, seemingly happy that the dozens of cars that were (legally) doing 55 miles per hour are now stuck doing 35 behind them, after slamming on their brakes to avoid hitting them, of course!

Can't they give out tickets for failure to yield anymore? I'm quite certain there doesn't have to be a sign, the main road is assumed to have the right of way.

  • Route 52 And Back Belmont Road Belfast, ME - Belfast
There is a pretty bad dip in the road for anyone making the right turn from Route 52 to the Back Belmont Road. It's been there for years; I think it's high time it was fixed.
  • Marsh Stream Road & Stream Road Frankfort, Maine - Waldo County
There should probably be a yield sign at the end of Stream Road to remind drivers coming off of this road that they don't have the right of way. The law says they have to yield, but a sign to remind them never hurt.
  • Pierce Street & High Street Belfast, Maine - Belfast

I don't know if people think everyone drivers oversized pickups and SUVs, but for those of us that drive smaller cars, the shrubberies on the corner of this T intersection make it hard to see clearly when you're trying to figure out if it is safe to go. They need to be cut back.

I realize people like their shrubs on their property, but they should not be allowed to block visibility at an intersection.

  • Highway 3 Augusta, Maine - Augusta
There are many drivers here driving in the left lane without a reason to. As a courtesy, the left lane is supposed to be for people who are passing or preparing to make a left turn. If you aren't doing either one of those things, then your usage of the left lane is incredibly rude to everyone else around you. The state needs to put up some "keep right except to pass" signs here to remind people of the simple lane courtesy that everyone should have been taught in driver's ed.
  • Western Avenue & 1a Hampden, Maine - Hampden

We should not have to bust an axle just to make a left turn here! Patch it, or dig it up and fix it right, but do something!

Or does the state have a stake in all those front-end alignment shops I see springing up?

  • High Street & U.S. 1 Belfast, Maine - Belfast

Just about everywhere else, when you have a right turn only fork like this, you have a YIELD sign, not a stop sign. This sign always used to be YIELD, and I don't really see any reason why it was changed.

Complete stops should only be required in situations where there is very limited visibility, which is not the case here.

  • 150-250 W Main Street Searsport, Maine - Waldo County

I think people are forgetting that the traffic on the main road has the right of way; no matter how long of a line it is, if you are coming from a driveway or side road, you are supposed to yield to the main road.

For those that don't know what yield means, it means stay out of the way and don't interfere with the flow. It does not mean cut right out in front of traffic in a 55 mile per hour zone, and putz along at 30!

The simple fact: if someone on the priority road has to hit the brakes for you, that is a failure to yield on your part; either step on the gas and get out of the way, or stay parked until you can pull out without slowing anyone down.

  • 1-249 Highway 3 China, Maine - Waldo County

Heading eastbound on Route three, the signs say "slower traffic keep right" so as to allow people to pass. The problem is, the right-hand lane is not safe to travel in. It is so full of pot-holes, ruts, and bumps, that you run the risk of seriously damaging the front-end of your car.

If the state wants us to keep right except to pass here, they need to make the right lane drivable.

  • Hogan Road Bangor, Maine - Bangor
The right most lane coming off of Springer Drive has straight ahead and right turn arrows painted on the pavement, however the sign at the traffic light says it is a right turn only lane. The sign and the pavement markings should at least agree with each other, I think.
