  • Girard Ave. New Haven, Connecticut - East Shore
The Girard Ave. sidewalk from Townsend Ave to 56 Girard is dangerous to access. This sidewalk begins and ends at Nathan Hale K-8 New Haven Public School. This upcoming school year over 10 children will this sidewalk to travel to and from school. I'm am concerned for the community members safety who use this route. During the summer the cracks fill with weeds and create uneven footing and during the winter pockets of ice form which hide from conventional shoveling. This side of the street also lost 6 large Maple trees after Hurricanes Sandy and Irene. Now the extensive root systems have degraded creating sink areas and compromise the sidewalks structural integrity. One 40 foot section of this sidewalk has been covered with asphalt by the city over 6 years ago and is now breaking off in chunks in various areas.
