The vacant property adjacent to my home is a constant source of trouble. First it was stolen items being stashed on the property, then it was a new outbuilding without proper permitting, and now it is rodents. And not just mice. Rats. I have found approximately 5 rats in my yard in the last week, 3 of which had been killed by neighborhood cats, but 2 of which were alive, and one which scurried in front of my lawn mower to escape a sure and sudden death by blade. I looked over the fence into the yard of the property in question and saw more rats in the yard - confirming my suspicion that this property is the source of the infestation. This is not only disgusting but a health hazard.

The woman who owns the (vacant) home next door to me is building a structure the size of a three car garage on her property and no building permit is displayed. The house is already a fire hazard, packed with boxes and junk from floor to ceiling,.. not to mention the feral cats and raccoons that have taken up residence. Six weeks ago, two dilapidated structures were torn down on the property, and construction started on this new structure Saturday, December 7 at 8 am. I want to ensure that construction is permitted and done correctly (with requisite inspections).

The residence at 123 W 34th St (23225) has been uninhabited since I purchased my home in June 2011, and from what I understand, for the duration of the current owners holding (since 1998). The owner of this property uses it as a storage unit, and only the front door of the residence is secured. There are multiple open windows and unsecured entrances to this home. Since December of last year the property has housed a fairly significant population of feral cats who continue to defecate on my property, and on the property of the surrounding residences. There are piles of wet, broken down cardboard in the back yard, and in a moderate wind, shingles from the homes multiple outbuildings and sheds fly into my yard, and on one such occasion, into the side of my house breaking a window. All of these things are unfortunate, but the most recent issue is of the greatest concern.

My motorcycle was stolen from my yard on Wednesday, August 29. On Friday, August 31, after seeing other, known stolen scooters being ridden through the neighborhood - I spotted a youth, approximately 16 or 17 years old in the backyard of the aforementioned property. I confronted the boy, asking him what business he had there as no one lives at the property. The boy fled the yard after claiming that he was merely getting a change of clothing, and I called the police to notify them of the trespasser. Upon the police's response, and entrance to the property's yard, my motorcycle along with a scooter were recovered from the property. Neighborhood kids have realized that this property is not secured, and have taken to this location for storing stolen property (mine included). If this property is to remain abandoned, it needs to be properly secured (including the outbuildings) or better yet, if the owner has no plans to inhabit the property, sold to the highest bidder.
