PWE CIP Project Archived63-65 Briar Patch Dr Houston, TX 77077, USA - West HoustonBriar Patch Drive storm drain expansion required to improve storm water capacity. Current storm drain line uses 24 inch pipes which are insufficient to handle all the water from the neighborhoods in the area. We need increase in pipe width to 42 inches or more. This will minimize the impact of street flooding in this area. This concern has been raised to councilman Greg Travis, Micheal Knox and Mayor Turner because our CIP start date has been pushed back yet again. My neighbors and I suffered great losses during Harvey, we are not in a state of mind to be able to handle another flooding in our neighborhood. We need immediate action to improve the drain capacity of Briar Patch Drive, 77077.

Dear City of Houston Officials:
Thank you for your time to meet with our HOA last year in August (2016) to address concerns with our regarding drainage capacity issues that our surrounding neighborhoods are facing. Please let this letter serve as a request to escalate further (high priority) the need to repair our drainage issues. Yesterday, June 4th at 3:14pm, I observed a swift rise of water levels after just a few minutes of rainfall. I include as part of this report a video recorded at this time. This highlights the need to take a further look at drainage capacity in this area. The issues are as follows:
1. The open ditch Briar Bayou Drive culverts are too small to handle moderate levels of drainage.
2. The catchment systems between Briar Bayou Drive and the Stonehenge subdivision are open, one is located in the middle of a wooded area that clogs frequently, and both do not have the drainage capacity to handle the area which floods the surrounding homes.
3. All drainage from Briar Bayou Drive (28 homes on ½ to 1 acre lots) flows through an open ditch system to a 24” pipe that supports the entire Stonehenge subdivision.
4. All drainage from the Stonehenge subdivision and several drains along Briar Forest Drive also flow down to the same 24” pipe under Briar Patch Drive, which causes at least six homes in Stonehenge to frequently flood, and endangers several more, during moderate rain events.
The third-party engineering assessment maps, requested by the Briar Bayou HOA and Stonehenge HOA provided to you clearly demonstrate the issues we are having.
The City of Houston currently has the Briar Bayou and Stonehenge neighborhoods listed as a study area, scheduled for some time in the next five years. We urge you to escalate this process on behalf of our impacted homeowners in order to provide them with a plan for the relief of these drainage issues. Your attention and action would be greatly appreciated.
Best Regards, -
