A pothole has formed in the line of northwest-bound traffic on Fleming Ave. This is the same spot where a pothole with sewage was reported back in January 2017, the result of a leaking sewer line. While the last reported issue had, at first, appeared to have been fixed in the last year or so, another pothole has now appeared in the same spot. If this is also the result of a sewer leak, it is a potential health issue for children going to/from Peter Pan Nursery School (across Fleming at Maxwell Park), as well as for students who travel on foot to/from Melrose Academy (located a few hundred feet up the hill from this pothole). During the recent rains, this water has been washed down Fleming to a pedestrian crosswalk at the foot of the hill.

Witnessed illegal dumping on the west side of Fleming Avenue by Maxwell Park (between Courtland and Monticello) sometime between 16:15 and 16:20 on 1/07/2019. 2 males in grey 4-door Honda sedan with custom wheels. Unable to get plate before the vehicle drove off.

At 23:15 10/15/17, both the Men's and Women's bathrooms at Maxwell Park were unlocked. As of 10/7/17, the bathrooms have been unlocked 37.5% of the time (and those are only the nights that I passed by; I didn't pass by them every night).
  • 4533 Fleming Avenue Oakland California - Maxwell Park
As of 22:45 on 10/8/17, Maxwell Park bathrooms are unlocked for the second consecutive night. The bathrooms have been unlocked 100% of the time as of 10/7/17.

As of 22:45 on 10/07/17, the Maxwell Park bathrooms remain unlocked. There are at least 2 people that I could hear hanging out in the park after hours as well.

Will begin tracking frequency of this issue again with individual SeeClickFix posts as they occur, as well as tracking on neighborhood Google Doc spreadsheet.

I had thought that securing the bathrooms were just being addressed later than usual. However, it looks like they are not being locked at all now.

Both the men's and women's bathrooms remain unlocked as of 10:00 PM 8/9/2017. This is the second time since Sunday night (8/6/2017) that OPR has failed to secure the doors after hours. Since there have been issues over the past year with people using the Maxwell Park restrooms at night (i.e.men and women going in together), this has been an historical concern here.

As of 8:00 PM on 9/17/16, both the men's and women's bathrooms in Maxwell Park remained unlocked. During that time I saw 2 cars parked by the park; at least one of them was occupied (the other had tinted windows, so it was difficult to tell whether it was occupied).

We're becoming increasingly concerned about the safety around Maxwell Park, and feel that leaving these facilities open are contributing to the increasing number of occupied cars parked by Maxwell Park after dark. Since 8/31/16, the doors have been unlocked 5.6% of evenings.

As of 10:30 PM on 8/15/2016, Maxwell Park Women's bathroom was left unlocked (for the second night this week). Since 5/30/2016, at least one bathroom in this park has been left unlocked after dark 18% of the time. Since 6/30/2016, at least one bathroom in this park has been left unlocked after dark almost 13% of the time. Since 7/31/2016, at least one bathroom in this park has been left unlocked after hours 25% of the time.

It's now mid-August. Leaving a public bathroom door unlocked 4 nights--ONE QUARTER OF NIGHTS THIS MONTH SO FAR is unacceptable from a public safety standpoint, not merely from the public service standpoint of the taxpayers.

Moreover, this negligence is chronic. Since the end of May, these restrooms have been unlocked AN AVERAGE OF ALMOST ONE OUT OF FIVE NIGHTS--MORE THAN ONCE A WEEK OVER THE LAST 2-1/2 MONTHS. And this is only the times when positively observed. Most likely, these actual numbers are higher.

Women's bathroom doors at Maxwell Park were unlocked on 8/13/16 at 11:00 PM on for the second night this week. At that time of night, there were at least three occupied cars parked at the park with people going into that restroom. These unlocked bathrooms are becoming increasing concerning; Since 5/30/2016, at least one of the Maxwell Park bathrooms have been unlocked at least 16% of the time after dark. Since 6/30/16, at least one of the Maxwell Park bathrooms have been unlocked at least 9% of the time after dark. And since the end of July, at least one of the Maxwell Park bathrooms have been unlocked 15% of the time after dark. Given the activity that neighbors are seeing in the park bathrooms at this time of night, I'd hope that the city finds this unacceptable performance levels on the part of OPR (and OPD, if not reported when this department is supposed to be responsible for unlocking these bathrooms first thing in the morning).

4526 Fleming Ave Oakland, California - Maxwell Park

For at least 2 months, this pothole, located slightly to the right of 4526 Fleming Avenue (facing that address from the street) has been covered with a piece of particle board, with a few cones and a sawhorse with a "City of Oakland" stencil to temporarily address the issue. During that time, the particle board has been damaged to the extent that it poses a danger if someone inadvertently parks on it or (God forbid) a car drives over it when the sawhorse and/or the cones are moved (both have been moved more than once in the time that the particle board has been in place).

Additionally, the pothole itself has been slowly creeping towards the center of the street to the extent that it is now visible at the edge of the particle board.

It's been months--please fix this pothole before a car is seriously damaged, or an individual injured while driving too close to the right curb one night .
