This street tree shows no sign of leafing out, since it was already looking dead last year. This dead tree poses a danger to the surrounding houses if it falls.
  • Massachusetts Ave & Gladstone St Cambridge, MA, 02140, USA - North Cambridge
The crosswalk at this intersection has not been shoveled and so to cross the street you have to wade through the snow at the median.
  • Whittemore Ave Cambridge, MA, 02140, USA - North Cambridge
The commuter path that connects the North Cambridge neighborhood at Whittemore to the linear path that leads to Alewife has not been shoveled and is merely a narrow trampled path which is hard to navigate and there is no choice but to use it. I saw a woman with a stroller struggling to use it. It is all but impossible for a wide stroller!

I'm very sorry to report that the tree in front of 20 Newman Street is dying. I wish there was a way for the street to replace the trees and also preserve ADA access.

This tree is leaning pretty far, and is loose in the well in spite of the supports. It has nice top growth but it never recovered from the strong wind that displaced it the first time and now it’s likely been pushed again by recent wind storm.

GCP must be doing work on their property but their work vehicles encroach on the park space that is adjacent to the little commuter path cut-through to the Linear Path. This green space has been neglected since its creation. Note the tree behind the vehicle at an angle. Their plowing of the parking lot pushed snow into that space like a glacier and mows down the trees. There used to be a fence on the exterior. I don’t know why it was taken down. It’s needed to protect the green space. We get a path but the park is an abused eyesore. We could load that little space up with trees! Why not? I don’t think that the space should be storage for the overlarge vehicles.
  • Gladstone St & Mass Ave Cambridge, MA, 02140, USA - North Cambridge

The problem is that few drivers respect the crosswalk at Gladstone, particularly at rush hour. The crosswalk is not as visible as it should be as well. Why can't there be a pedestrian light as there is at Dunkin Donuts on Mass Ave in North Cambridge? This morning one car had its nose in the crosswalk, while the 3/4 of the car in front was blocking the rest which left me with a narrow passage between in which to cross. I told the guy doing the lions share of the blocking that he was blocking the crosswalk. He looked incredulous and said "you're crazy, lady" like, why would I question his right to put his car in that lane over the crosswalk?

I think the crosswalk might work better if it were moved to the other side of Gladstone & Mass Ave. where there is a house and a red fire box. It's at the beginning of the painted street box where traffic is more likely to halt. And it's a little further from the Rt. 16 intersection which should make it function a little better. Cars are so anxious to get into that last segment of the road before the light.

the sidewalk that borders the empty lot at Whittemore and Magoun has not been shoveled and therefore one is forced to walk in the street. This is an ongoing problem with this property.
  • Massachusetts Ave And Gladstone Cambridge, Massachusetts - North Cambridge
This is a complaint about the unsignalled crosswalk on Mass Ave linking Gladstone and Magoun Streets. Vehicles block the box all the time and wait for the light to change while IN the crosswalk. Or they simply don't notice anyone trying to cross. The other day I was midway across the Gladstone side and a car nearly hit me while speeding from the middle lane to the left lane. Can't there be a crosswalk light installed there like the one at the Dunkin intersection? It flashes when people want to cross. People are in such a hurry to get thru that big intersection that they do not look for pedestrians.
  • Massachusetts Ave And Newman Street Cambridge, Massachusetts - North Cambridge
The oak tree on Mass Ave at Newman Street has some volunteer trees, possibly Mulberry, growing in the base that need to be removed. They are getting pretty tall.
  • Mass Ave And Rt 16 Cambridge, Massachusetts - North Cambridge
The crossing signal WORKS, but there is also a female voice asking for a password. This occurs on both sides of the intersection, so I assume it's at all 4 buttons.

This issue has to do with the commuter path that borders the Grace property and their parking lot. When their lot is plowed they push the snow into the park space that borders the path. There used to be a fence there, which was removed, but now the plows push that snow right into the trees on the edge and they have broken trees and plowed them over. It's sad and wrong! There needs to be a barrier to protect the trees. There needs to be more attention paid to that space. It is treated as if it doesn't matter. There is a tree on their lot which borders the path. It is not healthy. Branches break. There's a lot of those branches just lying there. I actually pushed them off the "park" and onto the parking lot. There should be new trees planted--and kept safe from plows. Finally, in the growing season a lush growth of weedy plants fills that park space. I would rather see that than what the maintenance crew does--mow/weed whack it down to unsightly dry stubs. How is this better? As we enter the new growing season I hope some good attention can be paid to this space.

This lot was the former Lapels Dry Cleaners. Now it is a fenced-off eyesore. There has been no shoveling on the whole site and it is atrocious trying to walk there. Also, the snow is piled up along Mass Ave from plowing, so you can't even decide to walk in the street. Someone is responsible for that lot and needs to clear it.
  • Magoun Street At Whittemore Cambridge, Massachusetts - North Cambridge
There is a persistent dog poop problem that spans from 57 Magoun to along Whittemore. It's gotten worse. Often there is smeared mess like it was half-heartedly picked up. Lately, today, there was a pile, and that was in front of 57, which frankly seems like it may be perpetrator. I know 2 dogs live there. And I have seen them taken to the townhouses nearby to the inside of the fence to do their business, so I wonder. It's gross and wrong. Can a reminder to clean up after your dog go out to the neighborhood, or that house?

There is an electric lawnmower on the Magoun side of this corner property. Put out on Monday, evidently for trash, not picked up, still there on Thursday morning. No permit papers attached.

The pedestrian crossing signal isn't working on the corner of Mass. Ave and Rt. 16, in front of the Mobil station—the signal to get across Rt. 16.

There is an unsightly collection of trash at 3 out of 4 corners of this intersection due to the people who panhandle in traffic at this intersection. The worst of it is on both sides of the Arlington side of the intersection. There is clothing stretched out on the fencing down to the brook, trash bags and trash with bags ripped open. Horrible!

On the other side there is an open shopping bag that is full of some sort of individual packages of salami or something that from its color has gone bad. The bag is ripped open, perhaps by an animal. There is trash and large trash bags there too. Horrible!

The resident on the right of the 2 doors of the double family has been recharging his vehicle, or tools--I believe that he's an electrician--with the cord crossing the sidewalk to his vehicle. On some days the cord is then lying on the sidewalk unconnected when the van is gone. I don't have a smart phone or I would take a picture. It's worked out for me as a pedestrian to step over the cord but it doesn't seem safe or appropriate to be the default setup, particularly if you are not aware and watching out for it. This has gone on a long time. Months. Maybe over the past year.
