  • High Street Medford Massachusetts - Medford

Last Friday a person got seriously injured when she was hit by a car, crossing at the crosswalk on High Street near Canal Street. In speaking to a merchant who witnessed the accident, she has since gone into a coma. Said merchant mentioned two more incidents involving people crossing at other High Street crosswalks in the past two weeks. Strangely enough, I have not been able to find reports on these incidents in local papers or police logs.

It's great that steps have been taken to make crosswalks more visible, making lanes near the Brooks elementary school narrower to avoid drivers going around cars who do stop for pedestrians, and setting city-wide speed limits to 25 mph. Despite all that, the number of incidents doesn't seem to have been reduced!

Would love to see some more speed limit enforcement, speed bumps, flashing signs or stop signs installed to make High Street less of a race track and a safe place for residents to cross without having to cross themselves first.

There is a dead raccoon on the right side of High Street between Allston and Wolcott Streets going in the direction of Winthrop. I saw it this morning, not sure if it is still there.
