The dumpster at this location continues to be open and almost always overflowing. CHA had indicated they would look into a better solution for the property as the dumpster is undersized and the lid is left open continuously. The current dumpster is far from tenant’s living spaces and people often take the trash out in the way to the car, so they don’t want to touch the dumpster. I totally get it. Maybe more rolled toter bins like those used at other residences, situated closer to the units could be a solution? I would appreciate an update and any indication of progress on this issue.

Sidewalk—specifically on Palermo—is treacherously icy and hard to pass. Street leads directly to King Open so very difficult for kids to get safely to school.

The dumpster is again open and overflowing. There has to be a better solution for this property. The dumpster is either undersized or needs to be picked up 2-3x per week. It violates the state sanitary code for both the residents and as the code applies to neighbors regarding smell and rodents. Please find a better solution for this property. We should not have to file complaint after complaint to get the dumpsters emptied or the lids closed.

Trash cans again open and overflowing at Willow Street apartment complex. This is a continuous issue at this location. Please work with CHA and the City to find a fix. You can see the squirrels eating out of the dumpster. The birds and rats are also frequent visitors due to the easy access to food. I should not have to repeatedly raise this issue only to have no permanent or even semi-permanent solution proposed. Thank you for your assistance.

Trash is overflowing with dumpsters wide open. It smells and is attracting flies, rodents, and birds. It has been this way for several days.

The dumpster at the Willow homes is again open and overflowing. This is a constant problem. It is a source of food for rodents and a stench that is pervasive and enters my home (a violation of the State Sanitary Code). It is frustrating that every time ISD comes they report no violation—even when the dumpster is open. It seems that the CHA does not have to abide by the same rules as other homes and apartments. It is an intrusive and pervasive issue for neighbors. Please find an alternative —such as the smaller rodent resistant trash receptacles the rest of the City uses. This seems to work for recycling at the apartments—why can’t it be done for trash as well? Thank you.

Could we please have some additional traffic enforcement on Cambridge Street and Willow Street near King Open? Cars are flying down both streets (when traffic is clear) and driving dangerously to get around traffic. They are also parking in and across the crosswalks at Palermo Street blocking access to the school from Palermo and sometimes pulling over and blocking Palermo street itself. Given that at least one kid was struck in the crosswalk on Willow last year, we really need some assistance calming traffic and keeping our kids safe.

Dumpsters at Willow Street homes are wide open and appear to be positioned so that the kids couldn’t be closed if someone actually wanted to. It’s summer. It’s hot. And it’s really smell. It’s also a feeding ground for rats. These dumpsters are a constant problem. Could we please transition them to rolling toters like the rest of us are required to use?

Road sign is gone with remnant of post remaining. The remnant is sharp and rusted and a tripping hazard. Could you please remove the remnant?

Yesterday a student was hit by a car crossing Willow Street at the crosswalk at the intersection of Palermo street. Fortunately, reports are that the student is okay (but it was likely a pretty terrifying experience for her and her family). The fact that it has not happened previously is actually surprising. Cars recklessly drive through that crosswalk regularly — particularly during school pickup and drop off. Currently, there are cones in place to keep cars from parking in the crosswalk. But, the cones are insufficient. They are movable and make using the crosswalk challenging. Could we please have increased signage and stripe the street to bring awareness to this crosswalk? In addition, assigning personnel or staging police officers nearby might cause people to slow down as they approach this intersection.

Dead rat in planter next to street outside door 28 at King Open school. It’s right near the loading zone so in a heavily trafficked kid area.

The dumpster at the Willow Street homes has been open for several days. From the photo you can see the birds eating out of it. There are also rats. Trash from the dumpster keeps ending up in my yard. Please replace the dumpsters with the rodent resistant trash containers that the rest of the city is using.

Dumpster has been open for last 2 days. It is chronically open. Until the trash at the apartment complex is contained, we can’t expect the new trash bins that the rest of us are using to effectively control the rat population. Can the dumpster be replaced with wheeled trash barrels like the rest of us are required to use?

I previously reported this and it was closed and marked resolved. It is not resolved. The snow and ice continues to block the crosswalk leading into door 28 of the King Open school. While the melt from today has helped, it remains slippery and icy when the temperature drops. When the crosswalk is left like this, there is not a safe place for children and families to cross Willow Street to get to the school. This is particularly dangerous during the high traffic drop off and pick up times and forces children to enter the street away from the crosswalk and where cars do not expect them. This is city property and should be shoveled after every storm.

Please plow out the crosswalk for King Open located at the Willow/Palermo intersection. The school side of the crosswalk is not plowed and there is not currently a safe space to cross to get to the school.
