Requesting help with traffic and road safety along Main Street. There are a lot of people gathering to drink and smoke pot along Main Street. Drivers who have been engaged in these activities or had them happening in their car and breathing in the influenced air then drive out Main Street into Alameda and beyond. There is a lot of speeding that occurs and likely driving under the influence. We could use speed calming and a driving under the influence prevention strategy.

Also requesting traffic calming along Tower and Monarch. We are repeatedly having car speeding and car meet-ups here with little disregard for public safety.

Hi. I am again writing about the lack of proper traffic and pedestrian markings at the intersection of Willie Stargell/W Midway and Main. I have written about this multiple times over the past few years with little to no results. Here are some of the issues:

    - There is not a properly marked and lighted crosswalk heading east/west across this intersection. Multiple school children per day have to cross east/west and it is dangerous.

    - Heading from W Midway toward the light at Main, there is not a well marked line on where to stop. Further, there is a dip in the road there. So, by the time you see the line that is somewhat there, you have momentum from going down the little dip and can't see it in time. Also, the line is WAY to close to the bike area that is set before the traffic light.

    - The turn going from heading north on Main to making a right to head east on Willie Stargell is way, way too tight. The lightpost and electrical pole need to be moved back off that corner and the turn radius widened.

    - The white line showing wear to stop on Willie Stargell when heading west across Main is very hard to see in late afternoon soon. The light reflects in a way that makes it hard to see the line until the very last minute at points during late afternoon sun. As a result, people miss it and end up out in the intersection. We've had numerous accidents from this happening.

Also, since the addition of the new bike lanes on Main, there is now new confusion because people are also using the old bike trail that runs along Main on the west side of the street and cuts across the W Midway/Main street intersection. Now, drivers have to actually watch for two streams of bicyclists. What will be done for this?

I've offered before - and am offering again - to meet someone from public safety and walk with them around the intersection. Please let me show you the issues. I drive this intersection multiple times per day and my kids cross here. I'm sure my neighbors would help walk it with you as well. We could show you from a local perspective what we see and tell you how the light reflection at various times of the day causes problems at this spot. Thank you.

  • Main St & W Midway Ave Alameda, CA, 94501, USA - Alameda
The intersection of Main St and W Midway is in severe need of help. Cross walk paint worn away, bike trail not marked, etc. I've submitted this previously over the past few years to no avail. With school starting and the increase in the number of bike commuters to and from the ferry, a bit of traffic paint would go a LONG way to help this area. Honestly, I think community members would come out to help do the road painting if someone supplied materials and directions. We really need help here.

Two street lights along Pan Am. Near Pan Am and Midway. Also, new bus stop at Pan Am and Midway needs lighting. Is very dark at night.
  • 2500 Barbers Point Rd Alameda, CA, 94501, USA - Alameda
All along the fence around the old Commissary, from Orion to around Main Street, it looks terrible. Papers, trash, garbage all over along with weeds never cut. What a terrible look to an area that is supposed to be the up and coming spot in Alameda! Also, for so many of us who live and work on the base, this is really an unhappy site each day. Could we please have this cleaned and maintained? I submitted a ticket a few weeks ago which was closed without all the trash being removed, and now there is more. Thank you for the help.
  • 2591-2799 Orion St Alameda, CA, 94501, USA - Alameda
Hi. I asked for Orion and Corpus Christi to be cleaned up a few weeks ago. The ticket was closed but this place is still a mess. Trash, wrappers, garbage dumped all over. There is debris strewn all up and down Orion and all across Corpus Christi. It is very disheartening to come home to this filth every night. Can you please help?
  • W Essex Dr Alameda, CA, 94501, USA - Alameda
Sprinkler left on. Hooked up to fire hydrant. Looks like it has been running for hours. Spraying a bush at the corner of Todd & Essex. Could someone please turn this off? It appears to be wasting water.

    Dear Alameda Police,

I am writing to report graffiti that was sprayed all over the very nice mural on the side of one of the apartment homes on the Base. This past year, community members worked very hard to paint a nice picture of a mother or grandmother holding three happy children. It is a very larger mural - taking up the entire wall. Sometime overnight a person or persons has defaced it and sprayed red graffiti all over the mural. I cannot imagine how the mural will be fixed unless the entire wall is repainted and the project is started from scratch.

I'm requesting that you work with Doug from the APC collaborative because he may know who painted the original mural and hopefully they can restore it.

I'm also submitting this to you as the police because this was defacing of public property and a crime. We are seeing a lot of increased problems here - dumping of garbage in the area, cars doing sideshows again and again, increased graffiti, and now this. We need more police patrols in this area - not just a police response when there is an emergency. I'm hoping that APC may have a camera near this building and whomever did this could be caught. An appropriate punishment would be for them to have to repaint the wall, purchase supplies for the community to repaint the mural, and compensate the community for the lost time and effort. Their actions do not reflect the family and community minded spirit of residents on the Base.

    Thank you.

Hi. This isn't quite graffiti but I couldn't find a category for broken windows. There are several windows broken wide open at the O Club on the east side of the building, facing San Diego street. These need to be fixed or replaced - it makes the building look bad and invites people to break them further and cause more disrepair. Thank you.
  • Constitution Way Alameda, California - Alameda
New graffiti outside tunnel entrance, headed into Oakland. Graffiti both on concrete columns and on entrance to tunnel itself.
  • Willie Stargell Avenue Alameda, California - Alameda
New graffiti on traffic signs and yellow traffic pole at the intersection of Willie Stargell and Main, on the east side of the intersection.
  • 2990 Main Street Alameda, California - Alameda
Graffiti on electric box right inside the fence on Alameda Point property. The box is right next to the fence gate and next to the water cleaning station by Pearl Harbor. Lots of new orange graffiti spraypainted.
  • 2751 Todd Street Alameda, California - Alameda
I am writing about the building marked 130 Todd Stree, right just south of 115 Todd Street, aka 2601 Todd St. This building is a fire hazard and emergency response issue waiting to happen. It was boarded, but people have broken in. 4 teens coming out of the area when I passed by a 4 evenings ago while on a walk. The place is trashed, glass all over the ground, full of grafitti, obviously being used for squatting and other issues. It needs to be either taken down now - not in years from now - or properly secured and the glass and debris scattered outside should be cleaned up. Otherwise, this is an emergency waiting to happen. Please assist.
  • 2751 Orion Street Alameda, California - Alameda
Please send this request to Alameda Poilice. Car has been parked at the Southwest corner of Orion and Pearl Harbor for more than two months with front left wheel missing. Car is up on a jack. No signs of it being repaired since January.
  • 2901-2999 Barbers Point Road Alameda, California - Alameda
Street light has gone out. Please have repaired. Thank you.
  • Pan Am Way Alameda, California - Alameda
Shoes flung over electric wire. Please remove.
  • 2751 Orion Street Alameda, California - Alameda

Shoes flung over electric wire. 2 sets - one st Orion and Midway, and the other at Panam and Midway. Please remove - makes the neighborhood look run down and probably not safe to have on the wires.

    Thank you.

Graffiti sprayed all over the cement walls behind the old tennis courts, just west of the O Club. Could we have this cleaned up? We've been seeing an increasing problem with graffiti on the base lately and it brings down the feeling of cleanliness and security in the area.
