  • Holly Lane Latham, New York - Latham

This traffic light is extremely dangerous. Since my husband and I moved to Holly Ln, we have had huge amounts of trouble when attempting to go anywhere. The main issues are:

    1. When on Holly Ln and attempting to go straight onto the 87 NB onramp, cars in the Exit 5 ramp do not realize that we are the other side of the intersection, and fail to yield right-of-way to us. They turn left without waiting for us to go. This is also an issue when turning right onto 155 toward Rt 9, as we should still have right-of-way over their left turn. The current set up results in us often having to honk our horns to alert other drivers that they are not the only side of the intersection.

    2. When on 155 and attempting to turn left onto Holly Ln, there is a left turn lane, but no separate signal for the left turn. People in the oncoming lane who are attempting to turn left onto the 87 NB onramp will creep up into the intersection and block our ability to turn left onto Holly. Their creeping up also obscures the view of the thru traffic lane, making it very difficult to see if it is safe to complete the left turn. This is especially dangerous during rush hour traffic.

Suggestions I have are: Have the Holly Ln and Exit 5 off ramp sides of the intersection have separate green lights (not simultaneous) so that there is no confusion. Alternatively, there could be a green arrow added for the Exit 5 side left turn lane which would then turn off when the Holly Ln side gets the green, indicating right of way has been lost for those in the left turn lane.

For the second issue I suggest a left-turn arrow on the signal so that anyone attempting to turn left onto Holly can have a safe chance to proceed.
