There's a patch of broken glass on the bike lane on Broadway, heading from Teele to Powder House Sq, between Simpson and Irving
  • Wellington Greenway Medford, Massachusetts - Medford
The Wellington MBTA station end of the Wellington Greenway bike path, which has otherwise been cleared, has been left relatively inaccessible by the people responsible for clearing the snow from the T station parking lot. It's worth noting that this is the same location where a tunnel was excavated to gain access to the path, almost exactly two years ago...
  • Northern Strand Community Trail Malden, Massachusetts - Malden Ward 1
While the path itself is clear, several of the spots where the path is accessed are somewhat blocked - most notably at the intersection with Main Street, next to the Doo Wop Diner
  • Wellington Greenway Medford, Massachusetts - Medford
The Wellington Greenway is the best way to avoid Wellington Circle while traveling from Malden to Somerville. Someone started plowing the path, but just stopped about a third of the way down. Why? The MBTA has actually left their end of the path accessible this year, so let's see the plowing job finished!

All of the Northern Strand path is extremely icy!

First, I'd like to thank the Malden DPW for clearing the Northern Strand path...I rode it this evening, and for the most part, it looks great. Thank you!

There is, however, a fair bit of snow blocking the curb cut where the path meets Holden St, making it difficult to cross to the other side of Centre St. I'd like to request that snow removal crews be cognizant of the fact that these intersections are easy to block, which is a major annoyance to users of the path. Otherwise, though, great job this time!

The Northern Strand path is once again covered in snow. I would like to remind the city that this path gets used by people on foot and on bikes, to get to work, school, and conducting whatever other business they may have. If left untreated, even an inch of snow can be a big problem. It goes through a cycle of melting and re-freezing, and the impressions left in the snow become icy ruts.

If you look at the attached picture, you can see multiple sets of footprints and bike tire tracks...when those turn into icy ruts, the path becomes extremely difficult and dangerous to use, and it also makes the path more difficult.

I would also like to point out how, as shown in the attached picture, the street is quite clear, and even the ones that haven't been touched by a plow truck are significantly clearer than the path, and this is largely due to the fundamental differences in weight and heat of car traffic from that of people on foot and bikes.

I would also like to request that this issue gets assigned to someone higher up than the head of the DPW, because Mr. Knox is insistent that plowing or otherwise treating the path for relatively small amounts of precipitation is pointless. I think some fresh ears need to hear about this. At the very least, a response more detailed than "we don't plow the path for just one inch of snow"...maybe at least try to give a convincing reason for why this doesn't get done?

    Thanks

Not sure if there was a sign here or what, but there's something sticking out of the median that makes for a dangerous trip hazard. I nearly did a faceplant into the street!
  • 1025 Fellsway Medford, Massachusetts - Medford

The crosswalk at this intersection is currently covered in slush. I would like to remind whoever is in charge of such things that this crosswalk is a very useful bit of infrastructure for crossing the Fellsway on a bicycle, and there are those of us who use bikes as our primary transportation, year-round, in all weather.

It would be nice to see this crosswalk kept clear through this winter, so I'm sending this preemptive note to hopefully have this acknowledged before we see any real serious snow accumulation.

    Thanks

  • East Coast Greenway Malden, Massachusetts - Malden Ward 5

I would like to remind the City that there are people who use bicycle as their primary mode of transportation, year-round, in all weather. Many streets in Malden have lots of potholes, and poor drainage, and the Northern Strand is in overall better condition, making it a much better option for bikes in inclement weather.

There is currently a significant amount of slush on the path, and if it's not cleared very soon, it will partially melt, and then freeze into rutted ice, which is very difficult to ride across, even for the most skilled of riders. Please do something about this, and don't forget about the road crossings, where plowed snow frequently gets left where it blocks easy access to the path. Malden DPW has been pretty good about clearing the snow the last two years, but ice and blocked road crossings have been issues.

    Thanks

The bike rack in front of the Bike Boom shop on Highland Ave broke off its mounts, leaving trip hazards on the sidewalk
  • 1-7 Locust Street Medford, Massachusetts - Medford
I pass through this intersection several times a week going to and from work by bicycle. I've found that, when approaching the light on Locust St., to turn left onto Riverside Ave, I have to wait for a car to come up behind me to trigger the magnetic sensor for the light. As this doesn't always happen in a timely manner, I sometimes find myself needing to make my turn when the intersection is clear, but I've had a red light for multiple cycles. It'd be nice to see the sensor adjusted to be able to pick up a bicycle!

There is frequently lots of debris that collects in the bike lanes/shoulders on this bridge, on both sides, and stays there for days at a time or longer. I've gotten several flat tires while crossing this bridge, but it's one of the better ways to cross the Mystic by bicycle.
  • Rivers Edge Drive Medford, Massachusetts - Medford
This is regarding the entire section of Rivers Edge Dr. between Medford St. and Wellington Station. On the southbound side of the road, debris collects in the bike lane and doesn't appear to be routinely dealt with. Also, there are low tree branches that hang directly over the bike lane (mostly near the T station). On the northbound side of the road, there are several spots where road work was done, and after the road was cut into, it was never filled back up to the same level as the surrounding road, making for a rough ride in the bike lane. Also, there are several potholes along this stretch that have been left unfilled for several months.
  • Wellington Greenway Medford, Massachusetts - Medford
Maybe this isn't the best way to make this suggestion, but maybe someone who sees this can at least pass on to the right people - it would be awesome to see a bridge running under/parallel to the Orange Line, from the Wellington Greenway to the bike path next to Assembly Row. Currently, there's no good way to cross the Mystic from Malden by bike (don't say Rt. 99, that's actually worse than 28, which is the current best route), and this would be a perfect location for it!
