Bike Thief In The Area! Open

Adams St Troy, NY 12180, USA - Troy

TThe police need to be down in the area of Adams St., and Hill st. area We had a bike stolen out of our hall way, and the neighbors on 4th St. had a bike stolen out of their yard, and the thief had to of climbed over our gangway fence.

  My sons bike was hijacked on the corner of 4th & Congress in the middle of the day by 3 black thugs. I guess they have nothing better to do before spending the next few years in the RCJ, where they will eventualy end up anyway. We did get the bike back.

Weed along road Archived

73-79 New York 2 Troy, NY 12180, USA - Troy

The weeds along Rt 2 as is many streets in troy are growing so large and out past the gardrails that it is a danger to bikers, people walking, and to cars. Why can't the city keep them cut back and clean up along outter streets not just downtown.

Unsafe speed on Sherman Ave Archived

167 Sherman Ave Troy, NY 12180, USA - Troy

The speed limit on Sherman Ave is posted 30, then 20 in the long straight stretch, and back to 30. Kids play and ride bikes on the avenue which normally has light traffic. Now it's the thoroughfare and 40 and 45 mph or more is the norm. Empty police cars are not doing the trick, they don't fool anyone. Before something regretful happens Troy Police should get active in writing some tickets and making a statement on speed enforcement. This detour off of Campbell will be here till June or July.

  With stop signs, speed limit signs, speed bumps (and more of them to come) and added police patrols we still don't see traffic as slow and as careful as they should be for an area with so many kids playing, riding bikes, especially in the summer. Tractor trailer trucks abound, despite signs forbidding them because they are tearing up our streets. The city police are probably doing as much as they can, they can only be spread so thin. With one full time traffic control officer they could raise 100's of thousands of dollars in fines if everything was enforced. I'm afraid we can't ask for anymore right now.

Downtown Sidewalk Riders Open

Just saw that riding your bike on the sidewalk was not allowed in Troy. http://www.timesunion.com/local/article/Troy-police-arrest-Kentucky-fugitive-2231685.php

I thought it was allowed and encouraged based on the many times a week I gotta "yield" to someone riding on the sidewalk who refuses to dismount or ride in the street.

It happens all over downtown but I picked this area because, as anyone who lives here, it is the epicenter of quality of life issues downtown and deserves the spotlight.

  The police may say that "city ordinance prohibits riding bicycles on sidewalks" but the actual text includes only "play vehicles" (Big Wheels and things like that) and only in the center of downtown (on streets as well as sidewalks). Bicycles and tricycles as defined in the NYS VTL are specifically excluded. Note furthermore that the VTL does not prohibit bike riding on the sidewalk; this is left to communities (e.g. NY City prohibits bike riding on the sidewalk via NYC administrative code AC 19-176, which makes a specific exception for play vehicles).
  
  While there may be some 28-year olds like the arrested Mr. McCormick, the vast majority of sidewalk bike riders that I see downtown are kids. I think you have to cut them a bit of slack, as they are kids, and frankly, riding in the streets with traffic in Troy is not that safe. Not that this would matter to TPD, Mr. McCormick was no doubt arrested for suspicious behavior (RWB?) - the bike riding on sidewalk was merely an excuse.

  The police can ticket however like everything else you need a cop to do it. It wouldn't be so hard to deal with most of this stuff if we knew the police were busy with really hardcore criminals but usually they are just riding around doing much of nothing.

loud dirt bike ride in lot no mufflers so very loud on private land then ride on walk path and roads no respect for local owners who want a quiet evening along with cars blaring music out of them on dead end

  In response to Ninth Street, no it isn't always "the blacks". The rider I wrote about was a white male mid-20's with tats on his arms & neck. As for riding past the cop, the kid on the dirtbike never saw him as he didn't look before he crossed Ingalls from Sunnyside onto Ninth. In hindsight, the officer was right in not pursuing him - this time. At least now TPD knows who they are looking for. They have already confiscated one dirtbike and are looking for the other two.
  In response to Kevin: Although I agree that Ninth Avenue's statement was racially slanted, only one whining on here is you.
  Steven: You make a valid point. Somewhere along the line we began to teach people that it's all about "me". Well, it's not. What YOU do may AFFECT me and therefore when YOU do something that violates MY space, YOU are violating MY rights.

One way street not marked properly Open

6-28 107th St Troy, NY 12182, USA - Troy

107th st between 4th and 5th avenue was made a one way street several years ago. Unfortunately the Do Not Enter sign as you are heading East was put on the left side of the road and it's angled a bit so most people don't see it. Moving or putting an additional sign on the right side of the street would make it more obvious.

The other day I counted 6 cars going the wrong way during a 15 min period and only 4 going the right way. There are a number of children in the area that ride bikes and play making the especially dangerous.

  I have also noticed since they made that a one way street the number on cars that come off the road the wrong way, i have a great view of the side street from my house and all day long can see cars and even school buses coming from that road the wrong way, i think with a school a block away they should think about making it well known that it is a one way street

  There was an altercation here the other day. Some was leaning on their horn and someone else was yelling "one way" "one way". Didn't see what happened but when I got to a window there was a car turning around.
  
  During the school year there are more cars and buses parked on the left side of the street and I'm pretty sure that the sign would be completely obscured at times when that happens.

  There were about 70 or 80 cars going the wrong way today, on their way to whatever was going on at the High School. About a dozen cars stopped and backed up to 4th ave after noticing the sign too late. One guy must have seen the sign in the alley as he did a U-turn right before 5th ave.
