300 block of N. Eagle. The storm drains back up and cover the road with dirt and mud every time it rains now.
Having lived next door for 23 years growing up and working for the city street department for nearly 36 years, I have personally cleaned and root cut that entire stretch of storm drain. Simply put, they are very small , especially the section from 336 to 324 and the problem won't go away until a larger drain in installed to some point down stream. If it makes you feel any better, many many years ago, we received a very heavy rain fall in a very short amount of time. The entire street flooded from curb to curb enough so that the small styrofoam sail boat we had in our yard was floating and I dragged it out to the street and literally sailed up and down North Eagle! You probably don't believe me but it happened and there is one to two people left that actually witnessed it.
Good Luck, Stu Webb
Stu we have lived there since 75 so I know what you mean. Just not sure why we keep getting all the dirt at times the drains are solid packed right the the grate.
Hey Dan: Well, the city went some 10 to 15 years without cleaning them. The entire town had the catch basin's done every year when I first started and slowly as workers were not replaced, it just became something they didn't do. Like ignoring it won't cause problems in the future. However, I do know that in the last couple of years they were all cleaned. So yearly maintainence is a must, especially on smaller systems. An expensive study done by a company a few years back of the Public Works department responsibilities, showed that to fully acomplish all the varied jobs that have come to be their responsibility over the years, would require 18 full time employees! I believe we have 8 full time people, so the needed infastructure maintainence will continue to decline. However, our Master Plan shows as a high priority of adding more boardwalk to the city system. When you can't fully take care of what you have, adding more things to care for isn't the solution, in my humble opinion.
