Description
The pedestrian crosswalk across 2nd Ave W. by Zellers is a busy intersection where traffic has the green light and if drivers actually notice the sign and stop, pedestrians have to walk across the red light. It should either be moved or have a proper pedestrian crossing sign installed with red lights to stop traffic.

I should add that the crosswalk is across the street from the traffic lights, so you can't push the button to stop traffic. Also one of the crosswalk signs is partially obscured by a tree.

Good candidate for a overpass walk way.

that crosswalk should not even there any ways to close to the one on by E>A centre.

Sorry, but the overpass walkway is a terrible idea. Too many oversized loads on that main highway through town.

Upate: Just yesterday I saw a group of kids at the crosswalk running at full speed to get across the four lanes before a wave of heavy traffic reached them. I wonder how many times a day that happens!

Call in to City Hall Engineering if you're concerned about the length of time of the walk light.

This has been an issue for decades. 20 years ago a uniformed officer did a test to try and cross, and had difficulty doing so because of rude drivers. I don't think much has changed, and it is not likely to do so in the future.

I didn't explain myself very well...My issue is not the length of the light but the fact that there is a pedestrian crossing sign at an intersection governed by traffic lights. The law says that when you see a pedestrian crossing sign with people waiting to cross, you have to come to a complete stop. But if you come to an unexpected stop at a busy intersection where you have a green light not only do you risk being rearended, you pressure the pedestrians into hurrying across without waiting for the light. The pedestrian sign should be removed so the normal traffic rules apply to that intersection. Would this be an issue for City Hall Engineering?

If you wernt lazy, like the majorety of the peopel here, you could walk the one block to the traffic light and walk across just fine. Stop whining and complaing about something that is your own fault. 20 Meters and your across the street. If this is about the crosswalk with a traffic light. Pedestrians do not have the right of way if the light is green. The cars do. You wait your turn as the drivers do as well. Im sure you can wait the 30 seconds it takes for the light to change.... unless your morbitly obece. Then you might want to sit down! But be sure to give yourself 10 seconds to get back up so you can get across the street in time.

Judge Judy, this is a place to discuss problems and solutions, not to bully people. Find somewhere else to play, okay kiddo?
I don't use that crosswalk but I drive through it every day. The sign confuses drivers and causes them to slam on the brakes. I consider it a hazard and wanted to see if others agreed with me before I report it.

So...Instead of closing the issue, why not report back here AFTER you have reported it ??
.
I agree that this crossing is annoying, but if you have lived around this city for any length of time you should know city hall won't get off their butts and deal with it until there have been a few more deaths.
.
Take a look at the amount of pedestrian traffic by Belly Up.
How more people haven't been killed there is just pure luck.
Maybe if someone stepped forward and started suing the city and the decision makers @ City hall, perhaps there would be more consideration put forth by them.
