Description

The east side of Front Street has a sidewalk that runs from Chatham Street to Pine Street. There is no sidewalk on this side of Front north of Chatham or south of Pine. There are no crosswalks connecting this stub of sidewalk to the other side of the street. That means that the only way any pedestrian can access this side of Front Street is by jaywalking. There are businesses and attractions on the east side of Front that are currently not accessible to pedestrians. Considering the speed and recklessness of drivers on Front Street, it really isn't safe to cross without a crosswalk.

A crosswalk should be installed at both ends of this sidewalk stub. At the Chatham Street end, there is already a curb cut on both sides of the street. Only a painted crosswalk is needed. On the Pine Street end, a curb cut is also needed on the east side of the street.

Alternatively, it would be really nice if the city could extend this sidewalk to connect with other segments of sidewalk up north by Dover Beach and down south by Lewis St park.
