Not only is speeding a problem, but tow trucks constantly use Van Buren as a shortcut to their Dixie Highway businesses when there is a "no through trucks" sign clearly posted on Van Buren and 26th Ave., but no one seems to care or do anything about it.

i agree, speeding is a problem on this street. speed traps work, but then they're gone in a week and it returns to a racetrack. :( we need a long-term solution to make our street safe for residents.

lately i have noticed more police cars patrolling the street and that seems to help but yes speeding is a problem even with the increased patrols

Wow!! I'm guessing the car that just went by was pushing 70+ or so!

This problem is still occurring. Since it is unmonitored and there are no speed control devices, some drivers seem to treat it as a raceway between stoplights. Is there really nothing that can be done?

Constant speeding and aggression between drivers on this stretch of road is negatively affecting the quality of life for me and my family. Is there no solution for this problem?

A fellow neighbor from Fletcher St. stopped by last night to pick up Great Neighborhoods Challenge flyers and even commented on the unabated speeding.

I've followed some of the traffic, and a lot of it does not seem to be local. I have seen many cars continuing to Dixie Highway and heading south (so they are using Van Buren as a means to Dixie instead of Hollywood Blvd. to Dixie) or, if the light at 24th Ave. is red, turn south on 24th and then east again on Monroe or Jackson to cut over to Dixie. There is nothing at all to stop them from speeding on their way, so they do.

Most of the speeding appears to be through traffic heading to Dixie Highway, not Highland Gardens residents. Most seem to take Van Buren down to Dixie Highway, or turn south on 24th and snake through the neighborhood streets to Dixie. A detailed traffic study would probably show this.

And we appreciate the efforts, but the residents along this stretch of residential road have observed that speeding remains a problem. I don't know what the long-term solution is, I am just reporting our problem.

I think the Police presence (speed monitoring) has helped, but the Police are understandably not able to dedicate more than a small amount of time to speed enforcement to this stretch of residential street. Outside "ownership" by cut-through traffic (in regards to speeding and aggressiveness) remains a problem. We certainly do appreciate the speed traps when they are able to be implemented and they are effective when put in place.

Also to note: I've been observing the traffic patterns, and most of the speeders I have followed are only using Van Buren as an alternate route to Hollywood Blvd. when going to Dixie Highway, where they turn south. If Hollywood Blvd. was designated as the emergency route in place of Van Buren and permanent speed control measures could be implemented, it may solve the problem. Hollywood Blvd. provides the same neighborhood access to 24th Ave. and Dixie Highway. If not, I guess enforcement is the only apparent solution to this problem.

If I understand the intent correctly, Van Buren and Polk streets between 2100 and 2600 were made one-way to allow emergency access E-W (respectively) without having to use Hollywood Blvd. between Dixie and US1(downtown area). Downtown Hollywood is a great asset. An unfortunate side effect is the speeding through-traffic through residential streets, many only using Van Buren from 26th Ave. merger to turn south on Dixie Highway (where they could easily use Hollywood Blvd. up until Dixie. Not sure how the problem can be remedied (or at least controlled) but it still occurs. I wonder if it would make sense to remove the through-lane design at 26th Ave. and requiring a true 90-degree turn onto Van Buren. It would at least slow the traffic as it merged onto the street instead of creating a running head start from Hollywood Blvd. I'm just making suggestions because this still concerns many of the residents on this street.

The speeding still remains and we haven't seen much enforcement.

not only on Van Buren- all over Hollywood, it seems... try Rodman St between 18th and 21st- and 19th all the way from Pembroke to Harrison!!! There must be a sign that says 'this is an I95 extension"! Families with children live there, elderly live there! Folks race through there with howling engines, as if they got paid for it. An NO COP in sight! THAT would be a great way to get revenue- speed traps! ALL residential areas need speed BUMPS. HIGH ones.
